Firefox 11 will receive security patches through extensions

Speaking of Mozilla browser, I share with you this news comes from the hands of Bitelia and I find it very interesting, because it can mean a radical change in the update policy of Firefox.

The idea is that for Firefox 11, all updates or security patches, are added to the browser in the form of an extension, which would avoid having to launch a new Release and completely update the installed version. Honestly, it is a more than correct decision since in case something goes wrong, in theory we could uninstall the extension and everything would return to normal, or not. We will see what happens with this, so we will have to wait for the new year to enjoy this functionality.

If they do that, and reduce memory consumption a little bit, I switch to Firefox 😉

It sounds very interesting, although I wonder what would happen to users who, for one reason or another, want to disable or uninstall the security add-on ...: S

I think they are wrong, what they have done in Firefox is that it downloads and installs the add-on updates automatically because as of Firefox 10 we can install an add-on even if it is "incompatible". This will not cause problems because an add-on is out of date. If you want to read more you can visit https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694068
