Firefox Developer Edition can now be tested. My first contact

A few days ago the news was running around the net that Mozilla would launch a new variant of its browser but focused on specifically for developers. Well, the good news is that we can already try Firefox Developer Edition, although that is, for now only in English.

Firefox Developer Edition2

How to get Firefox Developer Edition?

We can download Firefox Developer Edition from the following links:

Linux

Linux x86_64

If we have other versions of Firefox installed there is no problem, since Firefox Developer Edition uses a different profile than usual, so we can test it without fear of losing anything.

How to use Firefox Developer Edition?

Well, once we download the files that I left above, we simply unzip it and enter the folder that creates us. We just have to execute the file that says firefox.

Firefox Developer Edition

When i start Firefox Developer Edition The first thing we are going to notice is that the default interface is dark (something that I don't like at all) because well, you know, developers, hackers, they are all black.

Firefox Developer Edition1

The other detail to keep in mind is that now some default buttons have been added to the toolbar:

Firefox Developer Edition3

Some of them we already know. The new ones are, the first one on the right that opens the Web IDE:

Firefox Developer Edition4

And the first one on the left attached to the URL bar, which allows us quick access to all the developer tools:

Firefox Developer Edition5

One of the most interesting tools that the Developer Kit es Eye Dropper, which allows you to capture the colors on the website and paste them to the Clipboard.

Firefox Developer Edition6

En Firefox Developer Edition we also have the option to test Electrolytic (e10), which allows us to separate the tabs into independent processes.

Firefox Developer Edition7

and as a last interesting feature is Forget, which apparently allows the browser to forget to register the places we access for a certain time.

Firefox Developer Edition8

Conclusions on Firefox Developer Edition

And this is it .. What do you think Firefox Developer Edition? For my part, it seems like a wise step for Mozilla to offer developers a working tool with all the necessary resources.

Although in general, the color schemes respond to personal taste, I think that when working on a screen, the eyes are less tiring with dark themes and white letters. Quite the opposite of real life, which works with white papers with black letters.

In response to the following paragraph (which was omitted because it was placed between 'greater than' and 'less than' signs):

"When I start Firefox Developer Edition, the first thing we are going to notice is that the default interface is dark (something I don't like at all) because well, you know, developers, hackers, are all black ..."

Occupational safety regulations do not recommend black / white combination for reading as the eyes are strained (the diaphragm works more in dark situations). You can choose colors or grays, raise the contrast, not set the brightness to 100% and avoid CRTs.

      1.    eliotime3000 said

That same. It's not "black" in color, but at least it doesn't strain your eyes.

  3.   Carlos said

Very bad that of, associating black with hackers, etc ... It is just one more color and also has to do with the taste of each one, but that of associating it with something or someone ????? very loose, I could not use red because it has to do with communist Russia or I could not use blue because it is the color of the sea where many people drown and so I could continue. Very absurd to associate colors.

    1.    elav said

But look at that stopping in my comment on the color .. is only a personal opinion gentlemen, it is not to create a debate on this.

      1.    zerberos said

For the rest, excellent article XD

    2.    Leonardo said

hahaha, your comment is great, haha

    3.    eliotime3000 said

The black color is to avoid torturing the eyes with so much exposure to the screen, since many times the eyes tend to suffer damage when exposed to several hours in front of a monitor (and even worse, if it is a CRT).

  4.   ernesto said

hahahahaha, black is also the color used by widows, or the black widow, a spider that after copulating eats the male hahaha, certain Carlos is very ridiculous, he should not have included that comment in the article.

    1.    elav said

The same answer to Carlos serves you Ernesto .. Greetings

A clarification: Firefox Developer Edition if available is many languages, including Spanish » http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-gum-l10n/

      Thanks for the information compa.

That is what happens when an article is written lightly, but hey, it is not the first nor will it be the last to do so. hehehehe

      1.    elav said

Well, you are invited to write a heavyweight article. 😉

      2.    Snifer said

        Comment lightly?

Emmm because the post does not stop flaming, of course it indicates in the entry, my comment does not generalize that this bad is for your taste. ¬¬ °

Indeed, I found the Spanish-chile version. I am downloading it right now.

      Thanks for the tip 🙂

Excellent. I will test it later on my Windows partition.

I think it's great, we will have to try it.

PS: What icon pack do you spend? 😉

    1.    elav said

      Flattr

  7.   William Move said

A clarification, this is not yet the final version of the Developer Edition. As Mozilla is an open project, you can find the files on the FTP, but that does not mean that it is the final version that will be released.

    1.    elav said

      Thanks for clarifying Guillermo 😉

Tasting it and it really is delicious. Any place where the theme can be found to extract and install it in the firefox of a lifetime?

  10.   gibaalav said

You do not know if it has an embedded Ftp administrator (even in its minimal version) something like its Filezilla, it would be a great success, in addition to some text editor such as Vim, Adobe Braquets, ChromeOS text or Notepad ++, I don't know why what is seen lacks tools for magnitudes (rulers and gradines), aspect ratio emulator (especially for repository development), navigation viewer emulation and agave style palette manager. That would be a DE Browser.

By the way, you didn't talk about performance, power consumption, etc ... I don't know, for example, I have a Netbook with Dual Celeron at 1,6 ghz, 11.1 Inch. , and with it I do everything that is required for the web, namely: html, css, install servers, administration via ftp, creation of qr codes (Qrcreator) vector graphics (Inkscape) and color selection, even 3d models for augmented reality (3DWings version 64bits .run) etc ... All thanks to Linux Mint Xfce Edition and my fabulous Bash.

But I know colleagues who bring mini laps with a 1.2 atom and a 10 inch screen. and that for them battery consumption is crucial.

    1.    elav said

Well, I guess little by little they will be putting things for developers explicitly. Honestly I can't talk much about the performance because this was a first contact, I have yet to test it thoroughly although I suppose, that it is similar to the normal version of Firefox.

    2.    Morpheus said

Several of these tools already exist in Firefox and have been available for a long time, only they are a little "hidden":

And are you still using FTP in the middle of 2014?

Have you heard of GIT or any version control system?

      1.    Javier Madrid said

Why do you associate File Transfer Protocol (FTP) with a version control system (GIT)? They are two very different things. There are ways to do that from your local repository, you can "push" to your remote repository and automatically add those changes to the hosting, but that would already be programming your own scripts or reusing projects available in the GitHub community, etc. and adjusting it to your needs. And that is not done by just anyone or not by anyone.

In addition, most of the hosting, especially the free or the cheapest ones, do not offer support for GIT, but only FTP. You have to know the limitations too ...

How nice that you have decided on a tool like this. I'd rather have something like what Chrome does with its device emulation. I have to try the eyedropper to see if it is more practical than gpick.

    1.    William Move said

I don't know what device emulation Chrome does. As mentioned above, there is the possibility of simulating various resolutions (to test your website on mobile devices) but there is also the option of using Firefox to test how the websites look and debug them on other devices (other browsers on your own computer or mobile devices such as iOS)

  12.   matiasdelellis said

    Well,
I hope that from now on they will remove the developer options from the default distribution. I honestly never understood why they think my grandmother is supposed to have these options .. hahaha ..

Yes .. I know they are hidden, but more than once I activated them without wanting to !!!!, surely they occupy installation space, and surely it makes firefox a little slower !! ! !

99% of people are not web page designers far from it! Therefore it is absurd that it comes by default.
We all know how extensible firefox is .. They should deliver it clean and add these options just as a plugin.

    1.    elav said

Interesting and it's true. Now they could remove that from the normal version and make Firefox weigh a little less 🙂

    2.    mario said

"Developer tools" have been in browsers for years. It would be necessary for Firefox to take it out and IE come calling it an amateur browser. From there a normal user can disable JS, and with the inspector can save images that are sometimes blocked by the webmaster.

  13.   jhon said

    Is there for windows?

    1.    elav said

      Yep. If there is 😉

  15.   French said

Elav's comment is correct, the world of hackers has hierarchies and they are classified in colors
There are the gray hats or Gray Hats [people who master the art of defense and attack on computer networks]
There are the black hats [Black Hats], people who use their abilities for targeted attacks.
There are the white hats [White Hats], people who design defense strategies and secure data from computer systems
And the blue hats [Blue Hats], the latter serve governments and their intelligence agencies and espionage
Sometimes it is good to explain Elav to them, they also have the right to learn the differences between Hacker [person curious about computer systems] and Cracker [destroyer of computer systems], people always confuse the latter with the former

    1.    eliotime3000 said

In that you are right, since even the RAE blunders in differentiating between a hacker and a cracker.

  16.   Julian said

Excellent, although I would like to complement that "EyeDropper" is not a new feature and is implemented by current versions of firefox.
    A greeting.

Excellent article… very interesting. I think releasing a developer edition of firefox is a step in the right direction. There is no doubt that the web is becoming more and more a development platform and less and less a mere place to share documents or publish information.

  18.   Javier Madrid said

There is something that I do not understand and I have never finished understanding. When a developer version is released it is for developers of the same application or for developers in general. I mean, is this developer version for Firefox browser developers or web application and system developers?

    1.    Javier Madrid said

Why is no one answering my question? That it is very difficult to answer or lazy to answer?

Hello good I had aurora firefox and today when I turned on the computer I had updated firefox deloper, why? simply because the bookmarks disappeared and my history also everything from scratch please someone who can tell me something about it, how can I do so that I do not update at will firefox a new program

    it's horrible firefox developer edition

It seems to me a frightening sight, besides that authoritarian I do not give another option

How can I see firefox as before (which has nothing to do with Fire, since the little fox is ridiculously blue; what a head have those who do this, people without talent)

does anyone know before finally switching to Chrome

Did someone get the Profiles Error? (So they are running Iceweasel [for example] and at the same time open Firefox Dev Edt and get ERROR)

I already solved it 😉 I ONLY ask if someone else happened to him
