For once, Linus gives NVIDIA thumbs up

linus-nvidia-thumbs-up

I wish I had pictures of him raising his thumb. Instead I found this photoshop, and this real catch.

linus nvidia thumb

For what is this? To that NVIDIA for once (finally) collaborates with some code to the drivers noveau. In this case a series of patches to give initial support (not yet fully functional) to the Kepler-based GK20A GPU, which will come on Tegra K1 chips. These 192-core chips were announced in early January and will try to devour the Android market. From Fuck You to Fuck Yeah there is a big step.

Anyway, kudos to Alexandre Courbot on the patches.

Congratulations to Nvidia! It does us all good to hear that news, I hope we have more good news but from AMD too .. !!! We're on our way to (more than) decent support!

After all, NVIDIA backed down due to pressure from Valve and SteamOS. On the side of free drivers, I hope that NVIDIA also supports the other video card models so that they have at least support through the community if they do not want to cope with maintaining such hardware. obsolete.

And by the way, the Steam Big Picture runs smoother on Linux than on Windows. Still, I hope game developers will put more pressure on NVIDIA and ATI / AMD to support free drivers in order to get more users to GNU / Linux.

From my own experience, the graphical acceleration of the closed drivers of Nvidia has always been better than those of Nouveau.

I don't think they go too far and care about series 5, 6, or 7.

Something smells like singe here, instead of releasing their drivers they collaborate with the free ones… ??
I'm totally sure that nvidia is going to keep some secret of its graphics up its sleeve, if not this news is too good to be true ...
