The GECOS Suite is based on an operating system and in addition to that a variety of applications for the workplace, it also has a server capable of controlling these stations remotely from a web interface. The application is oriented to satisfy the public employee job needs, its integration in heterogeneous networks and its centralized administration.
GECOS has set the standard after the Junta de Andalucía raised the commitment to free software a few years ago, and after the success of a pilot project of migration to free software that was carried out in the General Secretariat for Innovation and Society of the Information of the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Science of the Junta de Andalucía with the support of CENATIC.
The GECOS Workstation
The GECOS Workstation Software has a very simple installation from a DVD disk or a USB memory, it includes the basic operating system with a graphical desktop, some configuration and diagnostic products and also a web browser.
Once GECOS is in its final location in the workplace, the technical personnel in charge of the IT administration (of the corporation in which it plans to implement the use of this system) must initialize the software for the first time and the First Start Assistant It will guide you in the steps to follow to connect the PC to your corporation's network and allow it to be controlled from the server where the GECOS utility is hosted.
Thus, when the workstation is linked to the server, the GECOS workstation will be created automatically; and after this phase, it would sometimes connect with the server to link and thus receive configuration controls, security policies, installations and of course also software updates that will be subject to the needs of the work group or groups to which the administrator determine it.
All of this represents a workstation fully functional, configurable, extremely secure, virus-free and without cost for licenses, something that in addition to being a favorable point for any organization, reaches critical points such as the security of the organization and the reduction of operating costs.
The GECOS Control Center
El GECOS Control Center is an extremely important part of this powerful tool that takes care of both the inventoried the PC park, as well as the installation software, application configurations and further monitoring all this included in an elegant and simple interface that guarantees its use without further complication and that will organize your workstations in groups (according to the criteria of the organization) and will be able to carry out the mentioned actions and apply them both on a single workstation as well as on one or more groups of PCs.
Inventory
Each GECOS workstation It is automatically registered in the server's database during its first connection and its information is periodically updated. From the server it is possible to consult the technical sheet of each job, from which we can access infinity of data of interest such as hardware (CPUs, memory, manufacturer ...), installed software, network connections, security policies, and everything related to equipment information.
The identification of each position is generated by a digital certificate Unique and self-generated that is validated by the server, this guarantees that it will be totally independent of changes of motherboards or IP or MAC addresses.
User Validation
To identify users, it has the peculiarity that you can use Standard LDAP or Microsoft Active Directory. The GECOS stations will connect with the devices of your organization to verify and authenticate the credentials of each of the jobs.

Installation
Simply download the installation disc for the GECOS workstation (in format ISO) and copy it to a DVD or you can also create a memory USB from file. and now just install this system on as many workstations as you want.
