Hello everyone, this is a project that I was very excited about, and in which I invested a lot of time a few months ago, for all those who love the command line, I am very excited to be able to share that!Git in Spanish is a reality! The code available for 5 days. But what does this mean?
We add a .po file
Translations in many C projects are done through .po files, these have a list with all the strings that the program has, they accumulate and can be changed over time to be able to use the same program in different languages. To be able to edit them, many methods can be used, the first and simplest is directly through the terminal with an editing command such as ed o vim.
poedit
I decided to use a program called Poedit to be able to carry out the translation work of the almost 30 thousand lines of text. With a fairly friendly interface, it is possible to generate a fairly good rate of translation by having various keyboard shortcuts and recommendations that facilitate the process of creating text strings.

The well-known base tool for thousands of projects throughout the world has translations into more than 8 different languages, for some strange reason a translation into Spanish had never been finalized, even with versions in Catalan. But this little effort brings one of my favorite tools closer to the Spanish-speaking world.

I hope that this tool can help more than one in its new version and although in many lines I have tried to maintain a coherent diction, it is possible that in the less common commands all this can be seen a bit overshadowed by my lack of care. Given this, I can only ask that if you see a poorly translated comment, or unfriendly suggestion, you can send me this by mail with the recommendation or translation itself if possible. I even accept PR on my github fork .

Surely you will find quite a few missing accents, that is because when I was going through line 5000 I discovered that it did not compile well with accents, shortly after I learned that I had to change the charset by default to make compiling possible, but much of it had already been translated, little by little I will go looking for these details to fix them 🙂 But, again, if anyone wants to practice their PR with this, I am more than happy to be able to add their names like contributors 🙂
Community
The Git community is quite friendly, many of them have worked or work directly with the kernel community, and it is good code that they have developed over the years. Their main method of communication is IRC and mailing lists, they send patches through these and only given few cases are allowed to contribute through PRs. But everything is easy to learn with a little motivation 🙂
Reflection
Well, I just wanted to share this small achievement with you and remind you that just like this, there are many pending things in many programs, and you can be the difference 🙂 it is not necessary to be an expert programmer to start helping, and by helping one grows a lot and knows amazing people in the process 🙂 Hope you enjoy the new Git CLI and it motivates you to use it a bit more. In fact, English discriminates based on nationality and income, it is therefore fascist and classist to use it as a base language in all international programs. The problem is that an international language is needed, which a majority, in the absence of all, can understand and English is already imposed in almost all schools in the world with European languages (all of America, Europe, Australia).
Can a more neutral and fair language be used? Yes, Esperanto, but for that you have to make the «titanic effort» of learning it in 6 months with Duolingo and lernu.net.
In each line of code where a clarification in English appears, they should put another one in Esperanto, to start a process towards a better world.
Unfortunately my friend, it is the people who, with their bad spelling (even when they admit that they commit them), do not make an iota of attempt to correct it. That is laziness, it is denigrating for our language ... That is why others come to do what the guardians of Castilian, that is, every Spanish-speaking person, does not do. Thanks a lot Chris!

I tried downloading a realese from your github profile but when I do make, I get a credential error or something like that.
Hi Diego, git takes the LANG variable of your system by default, so if your variable does not contain an «es» in its definition, it will not be able to convert the text, to check this you can run in a console:
echo $LANGand see what result is obtained, I hope it helps 🙂 my repository is a development and translation repository, many of the changes within the repository are not stable or safe for people with little experience in the process, it would be better to download it from your official repository, the great most distros already have git 2.16.1

Thanks for the clear answer, if the truth is I don't know a little about the subject, they are my first steps in linux, and more installing from source code, but I like to learn, I usually experiment on a computer in which I do not have important data.
