Glucosium, a free alternative for the control of Diabetes

It is not the first time that the free software community is interested in topics such as health and medicine. From this curious integration, great projects have emerged that began as something small and over time they have become bigger and bigger. Now, a group of developers bet on this idea again and create Glucose, the first open source application for the control of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.

Glucose comes from Italian, to define glucose, which makes it a very successful name for this app, since it is an important part in the monitoring and control of diabetes and therefore one of the most important metrics within this app.

It begins after Benjamin Kerensa, an activist of the free community, was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, and the need arises to find an application, in his free preference, that meets the needs that his new condition entails, a person with diabetes . Then the idea of start a cross-platform open source project focused on diabetes control and research support. It is here that a group of free community activists gather to bring life to Glucose.

Glucose

Glucose is created with the idea of help people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, without focusing on any one in particular, but giving equal importance to both. It is a meter for HbA1C (Glycated Hemoglobin), cholesterol level, blood pressure, ketones and body weight, registering all the values with order and great speed.

It has a friendly and simple interface, very intuitive that makes it easy to use from the first run, guided by a friendly pet. It includes various functions and tools for patient control, as well as allowing you to keep a record of all the measurements that could be useful to the scientific and research community.

Features

  • Designed for type 1 and type 2 diabetes
  • Preferred treatment model (ADA, NICE, AACE)
  • HbA1C conversion calculator.
  • Daily, weekly or monthly graphs and analysis from data recording.

In addition, Glucose works in conjunction with data CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitoring) in order to keep track of glucose measurements made throughout the day. The data provided by the CGM is integrated into this app as well as files CSVas well as by NFC (Near Field Communication). In turn, it also allows the export of information in CSV files, for external backup such as GoogleDrive.

With the purpose of collaborating with development and research in the area, Glucosio requests the patient for their measurement data under anonymity, to be sent in order to provide demographic information to the scientific community.
