GNU project developers oppose maintaining Richard Stallman's leadership

Richard Stallman

After the scandal in which Richard Stallman was involved and after he resigned from the GNU project and later said it would stick, a group of GNU developers, have stood up to the issue and they made their position known on shutting out Stallman.

And it is that in September, the main protagonist of the GNU movement Richard Stallman resigned as President of the Free Software Foundation (FSF) and its board of directors after leaving CSAIL, MIT's computer science and artificial intelligence laboratory. These resignations they intervene after Stallman commented on the victims of the American financier and Jeffrey Epstein.

Since he developed an elite social circle and acquired women and girls, often minors, to provide sexual services for him and some of these contacts.

A scandal broke out after his death revealing that he had ties to MITIn addition, last month, the president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology admitted accepting donations of money from Jeffrey Epstein.

According to some sources, Stallman spoke out on the Marvin Minsky case, accused of sexually assaulting one of Jeffrey Epstein's victims.

For these same comments, his presence in the leadership of the GNU Project is disrupting some GNU programmers, to whom they would like to see him leave completely the GNU project. Although they did not explicitly ask Stallman to resign, a group of GNU programmers said in a statement Monday:

"We believe that Richard Stallman cannot fully represent GNU." We believe that now is the time for GNU leaders to collectively decide on the organization of the project.

The group also recognized the merits of the GNU leader:

“We… owe a debt of gratitude to Richard Stallman for his decades of hard work in the free software movement. Stallman tirelessly stressed the importance of freedom for computer users and laid the foundation for his vision to come true as he began development of the GNU operating system. So we really appreciate it. "

But the signers want a GNU project that maintains the trust of users:

"The GNU project we want to build is a project that everyone can trust to defend their freedom." For that they think that Stallman is no longer the leader he needs:

“Stallman's behavior over the years has undermined a core value of the GNU project: empowering all computer users. GNU does not fulfill its mission when the behavior of its leader alienates many of those we want to achieve, ”they wrote.

But not everyone is unanimous in Stallman's departure as representative of the GNU project. Sergei Matveev, a supporter of free software, wrote on a GNU mailing list that he was surprised by Stallman's attacks and insults.

It should be noted, however, that a confusion was resolved in late September when it appeared that Stallman appeared to have quit the Gnu project when he resigned from the FSF. But this ad has been removed and kept in the archives. We suspect your website was hacked, RMS itself, without having said what actually happened.

However, On a GNU mailing list, he stated his intention to continue leading the GNU project:

“On September 16, I resigned as chair of the Free Software Foundation, but the GNU project and the FSF are not the same. I am still in charge of the GNU project (GNUisance Chef), and I intend to continue as such.

The FSF has also tried to clarify its position to Richard Stallman, by mentioning your future collaboration with the GNU project.

Decision making for GNU was largely in the hands of the GNU administration (ie Stallman).

Since resigning as FSF president, the FSF is now working with the GNU leadership on a common understanding of relationships for the future.

Stallman's only comment on this situation so far has been:

"As the GNU Project Leader, I will work with the FSF on how to structure the GNU Project's relationship with the FSF in the future."

In other words, it seems clear now that Stallman still leads the GNU project and still has influence over the FSF, despite opposition and the call to resign.
