Godot Engine continues to make progress on its support for Vulkan

Godot Engine

Godot Engine is a graphics engine which we have already talked about in LxA. It is an open source game engine that progresses quite quickly in terms of development. You can access its code, download it, see news and documentation, or contact its community from the page Godot official website. Now you will see that some previews of the future release of Godot 4.0 are available, the new version that has interesting improvements.

This game engine FOSS continues with development and they are putting great efforts to support the powerful Vulkan graphics API. While some are working on Godot Engine 3.2, which will be released later this year, they already have some features and functions that will be implemented in Godot Engine 4.0, such as disabling editor functions, pseudo 3D and 2D support, convex decomposition, new system. Android plugins, major updates to the Visual Shader editor, and more.

The main developer Juan Linietsky, wrote a new progress report. In it you can see that they are spending almost exclusively their time on video game support under Vulkan. It seems like it's taking a lot of effort, but it's running well now. It already seems to work, so it will be quite interesting to see what future versions of Godot have in store for us. We will be attentive to future news.

Looking at Vulkan 2D, it looks like it's halfway there and will start with 3D at the end of this month. The goal is for the main features to be in Godot 3.x by October, but that means putting in a lot of hard work this summer. Good news for all game developers thinking of using Godot for their titles. Going from OpenGL to Vulkan is quite a huge and positive change for gamers who will see a better end result.
