Goodbye to GetDeb and PlayDeb ... at least for now

GetDeb and PlayDeb grew to the point where it is impossible to maintain, according to its creator Swetna Gogineni, who has announced through Google+ that after all these years, Getdeb y Playdeb would discontinued.

Swetna Gogineni has announced that due to a combination of factors ranging from the loss of the database due to a problem with the server to the lack of free time, it will not be possible for her to continue with the noble, tedious and little recognized task of maintaining these repositories.

For those who do not know them, these were unofficial repositories for Ubuntu, which we have talked about in other opportunities, and that they included more updated versions of very popular applications and games.

For the nostalgic

Fortunately, the GetDeb and PlayDeb repositories are still available on their respective mirrors and will remain so, at least for now. If you are interested in knowing the list of mirrors you can use the line ...

… In a Google search.

The scripts containing all the package information for Precise and Quantal can be found in their respective GitHub repositories with the following links:

The web interface used for the GetDeb and PlayDeb websites, called apt-portal, is available at the following link:

Also, in the following link you will be able to find scripts to automate the package construction process:

The complete repository of .deb packages can be downloaded using the following script. However, Swetna asks that it be used only in case it is necessary to download all packages in one go, as the entire repository weighs 84GB.

It is a pity that a project with good potential is discontinued, although that software never gave me good results, I could never install absolutely nothing xD
