Google and Audi join forces to create an Audi car with Android system

News that is rapidly spreading through the network, the source is legit (The Wall Street Journal) so, there is no room for doubt anymore.

Many of you who have been mounted in a modern car, with accessories or extras such as DVD players, 'tablets' or touch screens added to the backs of the seats, GPS system, and other gadgets that allow you to control the little ones in the travel, you can attest that these gadgets often help, and I do not mean only to calm the kids, but many navigation options, geolocation, etc, this is what I mean.

Cars with this type of systems are more frequent every day, however Audi intends to go a little further with the help of Google and Android.

In the next month of January (a few days yes) they intend to publicize their initiative within the framework of the CES (Consumer Electronics Show), which will be held in Las Vegas between 7 and 10 of next month.

Audi's idea is to provide future vehicles with an entertainment and information system based on Android, because the idea according to WSJ tells us is:

Allow drivers and passengers to access music, navigation, applications and other services similar to those that are now widely used on Android smartphones.

In addition, according to the same source indicates that Google would be working with Nvidia:

to establish Android as an important technology for future vehicles

In other words, the first advantage is that the car would run Android, not like some current models that have a cable with which you can connect your Android device to the car and play what your device contains on the screen, here Android would run directly on the auto, so it is assumed there will be greater integration.

On the other hand, during the event Audi could make some announcements regarding its advances in driverless driving technologies.

Every day cars are smarter, cell phones are smarter, but not only these, refrigerators, fridges, televisions, many appliances make life easier for us today, where do I want to go with this? ... Did you know that within these devices, Linux almost always runs? : )

Every piece of technology that we carry or use at home, of those that are always in constant advance, constant evolution, Linux is part of many of them, Toyota a while ago was working on a car with Linux, now Audi looks to Android, be User of such an adaptable system is undoubtedly one of the greatest advantages.

What do you think? … In coming years (or decades), when you buy or rent a car, using Android will be a positive point according to you or not?

I do not understand many linuxers with are obsequious with Google What is Google bringing to the Linux world? Maybe to say that the millions and millions of cell phones with Android use the kernel sounds cool, but… did it start a revolution towards Linux? The sad reality is that 90% of the people who use Android have no idea what the Linux kernel is.
And the worst thing is that Android is becoming the new Microsoft, a new monopoly OS that forces manufacturers and software developers. And like Windows, it rots the user's head. They have no idea what nonsense you read on the internet. On a tech page, in a Tizen article, people thought it was crap because (sic) it didn't have Google Play (!!!). The user no longer has even the pair of neurons to realize how stupid it is to pretend that a developer uses tools from their competition. But hey, Google Play is already idolized as the source of all software that is worthwhile for the empty lives of users, who amuse themselves in their illusion that covers the sad reality that a company is screwing them with a platform that denies many rights (and I know what I'm talking about because I have an Android tablet).
On the Linux side, nothing new under the sun. All being like assholes, letting the turtle escape. The Linux Foundation forgetting that in addition to promoting the kernel among hardware manufacturers, it has to campaign strongly among application developers (who would want a platform with few applications?)

I'm not ANYWHERE an Android fan (not for a long time), much less Google, so I understand a bit how you think. However, take a look at this: https://blog.desdelinux.net/sera-android-el-pequeno-robot-que-ganara-nuestra-batalla/

Google Play is not a big deal, because they don't pay you like Apple does when you release your paid apps, and the true fragmentation between versions is enormous.

Let's see if in a few months they take out the FF OS port for Galaxy Mini (or try to do so). I use Android because it's the one that came to me on my smartphone, but I don't idolize it as many people think.

If it were up to me, I would stop using Google Play, but since I am dependent on Google, Facebook and other services, then just gentleman.

Anyway, it's interesting, but if they made free and functional drivers for my Galaxy Mini, I would gladly install Replicant.

It does not matter whether it is known that it is used or not, the important thing is that the user is benefited by the use of Linux.

After a while as an automatic update of the Audi in G + "I need to change the oil in the car", or "arriving at (motel ad)".

But hey, since Google is not invasive at all, I guess nobody will know this, I'm being a bit paranoid, I think.

It seems to me an interesting proposal to be honest, I have never had a thing on google and if I have tried the android system, but I don't know, there is something about android that does not convince me and it has nothing to do with the graphic part, but well I hope everything works good for google and audi, excellent brand of cars. Cheers!

How nice that you are driving and suddenly lose control of the vehicle because someone else takes control, and all for synchronizing data, while driving a car?

What is the purpose of it?

It seems to me a real bullshit

Looking at it that way, I imagine political assassinations and so on. But I imagine that we will always have the option of not buying a car with this technology, or of taking it away in some way.
