Before I begin to describe «gPodder »As usual, we recommend after reading this publication, visit our previous publication related to the topic of useful applications to listen to Podcast on Linux, which is about Goodvibes», which we describe in due course as follows:

"Goodvibes is a lightweight Internet radio player for GNU / Linux. In it you can save your favorite stations just by putting them, that's all. The application does not have any function to search for radio stations, you will have to enter the URL of the audio stream yourself. It's not very easy to use, I know, but doing better than that is not easy".

However, despite being an application to listen Internet radiosa little trick described in said entry, we can listen online to some channels of Podcast.

Useful information about gPodder

According to his Official website, currently «gPodder » goes for his version 3.10.17. This and its previous versions can be explored by clicking on the following link. Generally speaking, it is a Linux Desktop Client that allows us to manage (download and listen to) our favorites podcast channels through a simple interface, but full of features, such as adding / editing / deleting / searching and / or importing / exporting a podcast. It also has a fabulous integration with websites «Soundcloud (soundcloud.com)» y «GPodder (gpodder.net)».

What's new in version 3.10.17

Among the many new features (fixes and improvements) included in this latest stable version released, include the following:

  • YouTube-DL function reset.
  • Correction in the errors of updating the source aggregators (feeds), which now only produce a single notification. Which can be seen by a warning icon next to their title.
  • Multilingual support updates for Chinese, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, German, among others. Its interface is not completely translated for the Spanish language, but to a large extent.
  • Available for Linux, MacOS, and Windows.

Installation and Screenshots

In my personal case, I have installed gPodder using flat hub, about me MX Linux Personal Respin (MilagrOS), for which you only need to execute the following command:

«sudo flatpak install flathub org.gpodder.gpodder»

To then run and use it via Applications Menu. It looks as shown in the images below:

Note: Personally, from «gPodder » I really liked the power add the URL of a YouTube Channel and to be able to download them without any problem. In addition, it allows us to easily obtain the URL of their feeds, to incorporate them into, for example, the feeds of a website. And I didn't like it, the one that doesn't bring installer files «.deb, .rpm o .AppImage», although it somewhat supplements the availability of the LaunchPad. A more advanced alternative may be podgrab.
