Don't you know what the name of the Android droid (green robot) is?

Many know what it is Android, that OS very close relative of Linux, which has been HUGE success (especially in the past 2011, read Android, the OpenSource of 2011 for more details) and every day he gains more followers.

They also know their pet, the green droid (robot) who is super cool, cool and funny:

But… why don't you tell me what the name of this peculiar little friend is? 😀

For example, KDE has a pet dragon, but its name is not «dragonNor "KDE", his name is konqui.

All right… What is the name of the android robot? : )

Doing a little historyand quoting Wikipedia):

Both the name Android (android in Spanish) as Nexus One allude to the novel by Philip K. Dick Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, which was later adapted to the cinema as Blade Runner. Both the book and the movie focus on a group of androids named replicants Nexus-6 model

Among the Android co-founders who went to work at Google are Andy Rubin (co-founder of Danger), Rich miner (co-founder of Wildfire Communications, Inc.), Nick sears (ever VP in T-Mobile), and Chris White (who led the design and development of the WebTV interface).

And I just told you (and marked in bold) the name of this funny little friend. 😀

Andy

Fun fact right? …. LOL.

Nothing, I'm a big fan of Andy and Android, even though I have no possibility of buying a smartphone with Android, never mind, I'm still a big fan of them. 😀

In fact, as a product… I like it much more than the search engine or other Google services. 🙂

Regards. 😉

And so they buy another hahahaha

Mine costs no more than $ 50, and one with Android (2.2 or higher) costs more than double that money 🙁

      2.    Hache said

Mmm… yeah! the one I like the most is 2.1. I don't know why, but I get the impression that it fragments less than Froyo and Ginger. It works better, for my taste. By the way, I use a Galaxy S 😛

Android is genenial !! .. I have a minigalaxy and the amount of applications it has is impressive…. the downside is its almost zero interaction with Gnu / Linux.

The Android Mascot should be called Steve instead of Andy, since they were inspired more by iOS / Apple / iPhone / Jobs than in said cyberpunk novel ...

And for the record, I saw the movie, I read the book, I'm an Android user, and even so, it doesn't make me happy

Have you ever seen the Palm OS? ... hehe, you would be amazed to see how similar / similar many of the iOS things are to the old Palm 😀

      1.    3ndriago said

I HAVE a Palm, in fact it was connected until a year ago and now it is not connected but it still works, so I know what you are talking about, but Google is still more blatant [personal opinion, obviously]

        1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

Ah well look, you know better than I what I'm talking about 😀
Still, many features that iOS exhibits today were not invented by Apple, for example, there was once an Apple dispute with Samsung (for a change) over the bounce effect (that bounce of when in iOS you reach the end of something, which bounces the menu or icons in the opposite direction), stating that they had invented this, that it was their idea, do you know what Samsung's defense was? … Simple, they brought them a (PC) software from long before iPod / iPhone that had this same effect.

Far from any preference or fanaticism, I recognize that Bada, Android, have characteristics or appearances (general or not) very, very similar to what is found in iOS, but, remember that Apple popularizes something, it does not always invent it 😀

    2.    elav <° Linux said

WTF? That my dear friend / brother / pro-apple colleague is an Android user? O_O I didn't know that 😀

      1.    3ndriago said

Well, I thought you knew that I have a Motor Xoom wave a while ago ... man I do not criticize what I do not know! Moreover, I am answering you from her so that there are no doubts. One more time: admire how Google has used Apple's Webkit for its default browser jejwje how ironic life is and computing even more

        1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

Not really partner, I didn't know you had it 🙂
It is rare to find a Palm haha, it is one of those good products that did not succeed 🙁

        2.    elav <° Linux said

Well, look at you, I didn't know… By the way, did you see that Google obtained permission to purchase Motorola Mobile?

          1.    3ndriago said

Yep. I heard. And also that now Congress itself is asking Google for explanations why they were "monitoring" Safari users so to speak. ejejejejeje And now Microsoft has just jumped to say that they have also violated their privacy, but that deserves another post, so I shut up

            1.    elav <° Linux said

I love the impudence these people have. They are a face of clubs. With what morals does Apple or Microsoft accuse Google of violating privacy? All of them (including Google) have done it from time to time and even continue to do so.

It was from these pages that I saw the name androski for the android mascot so I'm quite confused because you say that andy and I also saw it in many pages but there are also these two that I put them

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

In this post I left the explanation of why Andy, which is on Wikipedia and elsewhere, I will try to search an official Google site or blog to corroborate 😉

I thought his name was Droid, there are others who call him Andru, well ... but they still fascinate. I ALREADY have mini Android Speakers hahahaha. what a cult this has become. Who takes away your taste .. nobody (eye do not feed the troll ...). Other MAs Geeks take the trouble to buy the robot, they decapitate it, take out the filling, apply their university knowledge, and ... they have given it life, yep, if you check well now, this droid is coming to life all over the world, it's already walking and where do they think they control it from an android phone !!

    2.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

Ah, I think Androski is the name of the doll as such, of the collectible figure ... not of the mascot as such of Android (the system).

  11.   tata said

    aaaaa bale then that's thanks

  12.   Frank d. said

On the official android page they imply that the official name is Droid, they have it registered:
    http://developer.android.com/distribute/googleplay/promote/brand.html

Officially Google has no defined name, they usually call him "Droid" or "BugDroid" and his dog "Alex." The robot that is exhibited outside «BigDroid». so …. I deduce that having registered the intellectual property of both the logo and the brand as indicated in the link above, they officially call it "Droid"

    http://www.intomobile.com/2009/02/17/so-what-is-the-name-of-the-google-android-robot-anyway/

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

So why in Wikipedia is the "Andy" so justified. Uff what a mess LOL !!
