Habemus Tanglu 1.0, Manjaro 0.8.9 and RC from LMDE

I was on vacation for a weekend and someone had to put these weekend releases

tangu

On the one hand Matthias Klumpp announced the release of Tanglu 1.0 (Aequorea Victoria), a new distro based on Debian. It comes with kernel 3.12, GRUB2 as boot manager, systemd 204 as init by default, contrib and non-free repos enabled by default, KDE 4.11 and GNOME 3.10 (not completely). It can be upgraded from Wheezy, but they say it's best to download the live CD and install it from there (they use a heavily modified version of the LMDE installer). Tannhauser did a more complete analysis of the first CR.

cinnamon

Also premieres RC the new isos Linux Mint Debian Edition with the Update Pack 8 (kernel 3.12 which is the one Debian Testing now has), Cinnamon 2.0 and Mate 1.6, improvements to the installer and MDM.

manjarokde

And finally manjaro 0.8.9, which in its edition with Xfce (4.11) allows changing users from Whiskermenu, its edition with KDE (4.12) has a look wash and includes KDE Connect and Turbulence (a new tool to customize the Manjaro installation), and its version with Openbox (3.5.2) redesigned and also with Turbulence. Also added to the community editions are the netbook edition with a "lighter" and optimized Xfce and the LXDE edition. Also hours ago the version with Enlightenment 18 came out and I take the opportunity to say that E19 is coming out very soon. Also in Manjaro there is version 0.9.7 of Pamac, which allows to enable / disable AUR support and also the frequency in which updates arrive.

I will only touch on one point and it is about Enlightenment: the pace of development they are having scares me a bit. They have been developing 12 for about 0.17 years and in less than 6 months they will go to 0.19. It's scary, I always saw it as a zombie development ...
    Greetings!

@Fega It is the most beautiful thing about the distro, and I say it without malice because it seems to me an interesting bet, especially for developers who want to have the latest desktops or applications in Debian Testing (although as Elav says, KDE 4.12 is released) .
But as I was saying, for my taste a little more customization in KDE, it wouldn't hurt.

By the way thanks @Diazepan for the mention 🙂

I'm very happy to see Tanglu materialize. It's a shame they only go for KDE 4.11

Well, I have finally decided to try Manjaro after 3 years switching between Ubuntu, Xubuntu and Linux Mint and the truth is that it feels much lighter than the Xfce version of Linux Mint.

I hadn't made up my mind yet because I thought it was going to be more complicated after so long with Debian-based distros but so far no problem. I have had to configure more to make it to my liking than with LM and I have had to search some things in Google to know how they were done, such as installing Google Chrome and mounting external hard drives, but for now I'm happy.

Just one thing, I hear a strange click on the laptop that gives me a bad feeling but I don't know if it's because of Manjaro or because it happened that something on the laptop is breaking down, the truth is that the fans with Manjaro are heard much less, especially when I see videos that with Linux Mint they were listened to a lot and the operation was much slower.

Finally the first version of Tanglu: D, I hope this fills the space that LMDE left me. . .

I'm with Tanglu on my laptop and very happy, I don't care that I don't have the latest version of everything in favor of better stability, that's why I left Ubuntu and went to debian testing in its day and now with Tanglu, I prefer the stability and security that everything works well to the instability of the latest novelty.
