Hello Friends, this time I am writing to share with you a tool that I have created to facilitate the translation of * .po files.
In case you don't know, when a programmer wants his program to be able to be seen in several languages, he encodes in a special way (it depends on the programming language he uses) the text strings that the user will see so that special programs such as PoEdit (link), facilitate their translation and create the * .po files.
These are used by the application: When it is loaded, it checks what language the system is in and uses the corresponding .po file to show the messages and the texts of the components (buttons, tabs, menus, etc.) translated according to what they are say .po file
Files with the .po extension indicate with their name to which language they are translated, for example: es.po (in Spanish), en.po (in English), fr.po (in French), it.po (in Italian) etc.
My application is "semi-automatic", it requires user intervention to perform the task. I explain what my application does:
- Read a XX.po file as prompted. When I say XX I mean the name of the language: es (Spanish), en (English), fr (French), etc ...
- It extracts all the phrases and puts them on the clipboard.
- The user pastes these phrases on the Google translation page, translates, (another translation page can be used), chooses the language (XX is the language) and clicks the translate button. Copy the translated phrases to the clipboard and paste them into the application.
- The application modifies the XX.po file. Note: it will also create an XX.mo file (a binary file which is the one the application will actually use).
Done this, using Poedit to edit the XX.po file and we can see how the translation phrases have been incorporated. The next step is to review the translation and improve it (we all know that machine translations are not very good).

This program is translated into 4 languages (English, French, Italian and German) following the method that I have explained.
It has been published for 4 days, and I have received the improved and corrected translation by two users who are natives of France and Italy.
If it had not had an "initial" translation, surely no person from those countries would have stopped to see the application (or would not have known what it is for) simply because it was in Spanish.
My conclusion is that the tool is useful. It is useful to translate programs, even if they are bad translations, allowing it to reach more people, and that people can help improve the translation.

With this tool, the 4 translations take 1 minute to do and incorporate them into the program.
What would be the difference with Poedit?

My program does not replace PoEdit, it complements it.
It simply makes it easy to add the google translator translations of almost ALL phrases, with a couple of mouse clicks, to the xx.po file.
Then with PoEdit, you edit the xx.po file and check the translations.
In Ubuntu 14.04 after giving me multiple dependency errors from Gambas rendinme.
You need to have gambas3.5.4 installed
I think that in Ubuntu 14.04, the gambas3.1.1 version is installed by default.
You have to add this PPA:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa: gambas-team / gambas3
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gambas3

This is a tool for those who do not have money or cannot afford to hire a translator and want to translate programs (their own or those of others).
I am one of those who usually resort to Transtator, in fact I did it with FireJamendo, even with a game I made for Zx Spectrum, but it is not usually the best option since many times the translation is not correct, and I say it for both cases , which improved the translation.
Well, I who are always doing linguistic things, and of course prawns, I appreciate it a lot, it will serve me a lot with that it will be not only faster to translate as much easier since you translate for you + a translator you review and period.
Right now I am translating opencaesar and there are thousands of dialogues to translate and they do not use poedit, so I can see them. So everything that is done to facilitate tasks is great.

It is an easy and modern language (it supports the OOP paradigm) and it is as fast as Python.

Which is not true. If you had googled gambas3 3 years ago, you would have had virtually no results.
The user does not care what language the application is made in, only if it is useful to them.
If it doesn't work for you, it doesn't matter what language it is programmed with (C, C ++, Java, Python… or Gambas3), it will still not work for you.

It would be interesting if you did not re-translate the phrases that were already translated. Also, they will mark the new translations as «fuzzy» (provisional), so we know which ones we have to review

If it is disabled, even if you translate it in google translator, it will not incorporate it into the .po file, if it already has a translation. Test it.

Why not recompile it with more modern Gambas to be able to continue using it without external repositories?

Error, I have tried to translate bluefish from English to Esperanto (eo) (eo uses the same string of plurals in the catalog configuration), and if I check the option to delete the translated strings (because there are several at the beginning that are translated into English after copying en.po to eo.po) because at the end of the process if I try to open the file with poedit it gives me an error and says that it is corrupt.

Failure, the steps:
1) Download en.po from bluefish

2) copy en.po to eo.po to translate it into Esperanto
3) Open eo.po with helptranslator
4) Since there are already several sentences translated at the beginning, check the box [x] Delete sentences that were translated
5) The content of the clipboard copy it into a new file ingles.txt
6) Translate document with Google Translate from English to Esperanto.
7) Select the entire translation (right mouse button and select all) and paste it into Helptranslator
8) Finished? No, now close helptranslator and open the eo.po file from poedit: error.
Okay, I'm going to see what happens. If it's a bug, I'll try to fix it.
