How to activate Mono-Window mode in Gimp (Gimp like Photoshop)

Although we announce the departure of Gimp 2.8, and in that same post we mentioned the news that this new version brought ... we never said how to put the modality Mono-Window en Gimp 😉

It's very, very simple:

1. Open Gimp and it will open like this:

2. Go to the main menu, Window and select the option «Single window mode«:

3. Done 😀 😀:

Honestly ... I didn't know how much I needed this modality, until I had it 😀

But ... the post does not end here hehe.

This version of Gimp also brings a new splash (home screen or loading), I personally like it but, if you want any other ... I leave some of our posts that will be really interesting:

Anyway ... greetings 😀

Can you recommend a Gimp manual for beginners? I have time that I want to start testing it and experimenting, I would like something elementary.

Single window mode was one of the things that many Gimp users wanted as an available option. It took some time to be part of the stable version of this great image editor, but finally it is possible. Also, it seems right to me that instead of just replacing (multi-window per single window), what they did was integrate, offering both options to the user.

Good information for those of us who are not very familiar with gimp. Tatica has some really good tutorials. Greetings and congratulations for this excellent blog.

      Hello there,
With Windows8 I have no idea, I have never used it and personally… I don't think I use it for more than to test a bit. About Gimp, when you open it, look at the File Menu (where there is an option that says Window, just as you can see in the photo in the post), there should be the option for "Single Window Mode", right?

That option does not appear, they only appear:
    Recently closed recesses
    Embeddable Dialogs
    Layers, channels, routes ...
That single window does not appear

Thanks for the info, very interesting and useful ... It may be that I'm stupid, but I can't quite get the hang of the Gimp ... It's hard for me, it must be because of the years I've been using Photoshop. Every time I encourage myself to try to understand it or to get used to it, I despair and abandon it ... I hope that this time I succeed ...
