Let's say we have downloaded several Linux images at fondosgratis.mx And since we all like them, we want them to change automatically from time to time.
KDE
KDE It has everything, and setting it to change the wallpaper from time to time is very simple. For this we go to Desktop Preferences and we should get something like this:
Now we go to where it says Wallpaper and we will get a series of options, we have to choose the one that says Presentation
The rest is simple, we can set the time in which the Wallpapers should change, and we can select the System Desktop Wallpapers, Downloaded Desktop Wallpapers or simply, the folder where the funds we want to display are located.
XFCE
In the case of XFCE it is also quite simple since the latest versions. What we do is go to the Desktop Preferences and we should get something like this:
Now we select the Image List option, and add the Backgrounds that we want to change automatically.
At the bottom, we set the time (in minutes) and that's it.
GNOME
As far as I tried, GNOME-Shell You don't have the option to change Wallpapers every so often and if so, I apologize for my ignorance, but we can use a tool like Variety to achieve this goal. You can see how to install it in this link.
And of course, there are other tools, so if you know of an alternative, you can leave your comment about it.
Gnome shell doesn't have a graphical interface for that, but you can create the corresponding xmls.
I recently did it for gnome mesh, you can still mess with it
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/81243203/GNOME_Mesh.zip
just unzip it and with gnome-tweak-tool tell it where the xml path is
There is an extension for Gnome Shell:
BackSlide:
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/543/backslide/
Although Variety seems to be better.
PS: Leave the Gnome Shell as it is; why change it xD.
in xfce 4.11 there is a bug that does not allow changing the wallpaper from variety, as well as from an image file with right click, or from programs like shotwell. It only allows it from the xfce desktop switch. So variety in XFCE doesn't work 🙁
It looks good 😀
Off topic: What icon theme is that in KDE?
Appreciated: 3
Flattr, we've already talked about that topic on the blog 😉

For Gnome there is the extension BackSlide is an extension for Gnome Shell that allows us to change the wallpaper automatically after a certain time.
Excellent, but they should include that option by default .. 😉
What's in it for Lxde? I can somehow?
the million-D question: in the gnome photo where the girl appears with her finger in her mouth, could you share it? 🙂 by the way there is an extension in gnome 😉
There is one, which is installed by default in the Venezuelan distribution Canaima, which is in version 4.1 and is called "Dynamic Funds"
I had the fortune of stumbling upon Wallch, for ubuntu, it's good, light and it has never bothered me. in addition to very easily configurable. It brings a couple of options if you are always connected to the Internet, it is found within the accessories of the Ubuntu software center, but in case you prefer to install it by commands it would be
sudo apt-get install Wallch
simple and straightforward and that's it.
