How To Fedora: Install RPM Fusion Repositories

What is RPMFusion? is a fusion of Regattas , freshrpms y livna , we aim to simplify the end-user experience by bundling as much additional software as possible in one place.

RPMFusion is the most important additional repository (and almost mandatory to add) in Fedora. It includes a large part of the package that Red Hat it does not include by default in its distributions for licensing or patent reasons, so this repository is essential to, for example, install the multimedia playback codecs. This is because Fedora aims to offer free alternatives to proprietary code and content to make it completely free and redistributable.

Add RPM Fusion repository

To add it, just open a terminal and paste the following:

su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-branched.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-branched.noarch.rpm'

To finish, we must update our repositories:

sudo yum check-update

We update:

sudo yum update

Now we are ready to install proprietary drivers and codecs on our computer;).

Very kind to publish that list, my question was because in distros with kernel 2.6.37.x and 2.6.38> the wireless usb I have is automatically detected (I think it is a realtek 8188SU chip) without adding anything, but this does not happen in fedora. I have tested the fedora 14 ~ 16 and the wireless usb is not detected.

In distros that had a kernel 2.6.37 <, it was enough to add a file (copy / paste, which by the way downloaded from the debian repos and it was valid for any distro to detect that usb wireless) with their respective folders to / lib / firmware. But he knows in fedora just not.

I can only find out if fedora includes any networkmanager (kde / gnome) in the installation. Or if it is like in debian 6 cd1, apart from adding that firmware to / lib / firmware you have to install the networkmanager to manage the wifi networks.

By the way, in the forum I have not opened a topic because before I am investigating a little before re-installing fedora.

        Greetings.

        1.    perseus said

Install the respective network manager to the desktop environment. As for the firmware, I could not assure you, I have not tried with a Realtek chipset despite having a wireless USB (Alpha), but as you say, it is very rare that any distro with a 3.X kernel can detect said device automagically .

It would be a thing to try;).

Just thank the good disposition of Perseus and everyone around here! Silverio, experimenting with bringing my entire graphical and musical environment from Ruin2 $$$ virtualized via Vbox on GNU-Linux, so far Fedora 17 has responded more than any distro I tried, which have been all known and this since the year 1995, I think I am succeeding; then I will also pass everything I did for that purpose Fraternally, Silverio de Carmen de Patagones, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentine Republic, South America, planet earth.

Greetings to all, I have Fedora and and when I put in Add / Remove Software, it starts to load and then I get the blessed "it is not possible to extract information from the software", I have tried to do what it says on this website to update my repo, but you can't, I get:

    # su -c 'yum localinstall –nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-branched.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-branched.noarch.rpm'
    Loading “installonlyn” plugin
    usage: yum [options]

Command line error: no such option: –nogpgcheck

And when I want to put the Rpm Fussion I get:

    rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
    retrieving http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
    warning: /var/tmp/rpm-xfer.vP5oR6: Header V3 RSA / SHA256 signature: NOKEY, key ID 172ff33d
    error: Failed dependencies:
rpmlib (FileDigests) = 19 is needed by rpmfusion-free-release-19-1.noarch
rpmlib (PayloadIsXz) <= 5.2-1 is needed by rpmfusion-free-release-19-1.noarch

Could someone help me with that?

PS: I am new to Linux and I have Fedora because my machine is somewhat old, greetings.

Hi Perseus, after installing Fedora 25 DKE I get "grub>", I can't enter the terminal even with Ctrl + alt + F2. It seems to me that it is a problem with the video card driver, I had the same problem when I installed 'Debian Jessie but I solved it' with a command line to install the realtek firmware, but this time it is' more difficult. If I can install the rpmfusion packages, how do I install the video card driver, which is AMD, ATi!
