How to have a pet (cat, dog, tiger, Sakura or Tomoyo) in our Linux

A few days ago I installed Debian on my girlfriend's PC, which means that these days I have had to look for several applications that are "cool" enough for her to be delighted with Linux 😀

This that I show you now is certainly an excellent option ... - » oneko

oneko is an application that will make a funny kitten go around and around our entire screen, here are some screenshots of the cat:

But this is just the kitty, which is the result of simply running oneko, there are more pets but ... well let's install first oneko 😀

If they use Debian, Ubuntu or derivatives they install it through:

sudo apt-get install oneko

I imagine that in other distros the package is called the same 😉

Once installed in a terminal or through [Alt] + [F2] execute oneko and voila, this cool cat will be shown to you.

What if I don't want a cat?

They have other pets to choose from ... for example, if they run:

oneko -tora

Then they will have a tiger:

If they execute it but with the parameter -dog then it will be a puppy:

oneko -dog

But ... those of us who are anime fans, we can have Sakura Kinomoto on our desktop with the parameter -sakura:

oneko -sakura

As well as Tomoyo Daidouji with the -tomoyo parameter:

oneko -tomoyo

BUT !!… this is not all 🙂

We have even more options to customize our pet, here are some useful parameters:

-tofocus : It will make the pet not automatically follow our cursor, but will be "on its own" or doing whatever it wants 😉

-rv : It will invert the colors of the pet, for example the cat is white by default, if we apply this parameter the cat will be black.

-fg : If we do not like the color of the pet's lines, then we can simply indicate a color, for example: oneko -fg red

-bg : If we do not like our pet's skin color, we can change that color with this parameter, for example: oneko -bg red

I recommend reading the oneko (man oneko) help for more information 😉

Anyway, without a doubt this is a pretty funny application, it can entertain someone and show them that Linux is not that monster of white letters and black background, but that it is quite the opposite ... colorful, cheerful and may have mustaches LOL! !

regards

Hahaha very good. What I've always wanted is a tamagochi-type pet on my desk that grows up and starves if you don't feed it and so on.

Likewise, I have always wanted a tamagochi ... either on the computer or on the cell phone LOL !!!, It is one of those childhood traumas because I never had one LOL !!

It's cool, and in case anyone starts to invoke all the characters and they fill up with little monkeys, and want to remove them, use: «killall oneko» 😛
Thank you very much for sharing C:

Hi. Thanks for the application, by the way does anyone know something like a Tamagochi for Linux? It would be very interesting.
Another thing, what theme do you have in Debian? I liked the World of Woo ball and the bar icons 😀
    Regards!

I'm still looking for one, I'm looking for more applications like this.

Regarding KDE, I use the same theme that comes by default but I only changed the start icon and put the one you see, read here - » https://blog.desdelinux.net/como-cambiar-el-icono-de-inicio-de-kde-o-lanzador-de-aplicaciones/

Haha it's good ... although it distracts me a bit to see what the dog is doing xDDD.

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

I already removed the damn cat ... that did nothing more than follow my mouse (pointer, mouse) ... HAHAHAHA

  8.   Citux said

Thanks KZKG ^ Gaara, now I will have a cat on my desk 🙂

What is the GTK theme you use so that the Firefox icons (because it's Firefox, right?) Look like the first screenshot?

    1.    VaryHeavy said

Ah! And how do you do it to give the window that "bluish" color?

    2.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

      It's not actually a GTK theme 🙂
I use KDE, so I use OxygenKDE in Firefox to make Firefox look so great on my KDE: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=117962

      1.    VaryHeavy said

Ahh I understand ... I used it too, but it seems that Firefox updates much faster than OxygenKDE, and whenever Firefox is updated, the latest version of OxygenKDE is no longer supported. Currently OxygenKDE does not have a version compatible with Firefox 18.

        1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

Yes, right now I'm using FF18 and I don't have support for OxygenKDE 🙁… my FF16.0.2 T_T looked so cute

          1.    VaryHeavy said

There is a theme for Firefox that, although it does not reach the level of integration of OxygenKDE, it does emulate a relatively similar environment, it is called Simply White.

            1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

I'm looking for it, thanks 🙂

Testing if the Rosa icon appears in the comment !!! It seems to me that they would not have to add it

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

      Hello
Actually we do support Rosa Linux, but you must modify the UserAgent of your browser: https://blog.desdelinux.net/desdelinux-ya-soporta-rosa-linux-y-crunchbang/

      1.    Pink Linux said

I have not achieved it, could you be more explanatory to be able to achieve it

        1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

Yes of course with pleasure 🙂
DesdeLinux shows the logo of the distro that the user's browser indicates, that is, in my case my Firefox tells the site that I use Debian, that's why DesdeLinux is able to show the Debian logo.

In your case, you must configure Firefox to tell everyone that you use Rosa Linux, for this you configure the UserAgent, and to configure the UserAgent of your Firefox here is the tutorial you need: https://blog.desdelinux.net/tips-como-cambiar-el-user-agent-de-firefox/

Simply in the chain instead of putting Debian or something like that, put Rosa Linux and that's it, open the blog (or press F5 if you already have it open) and in the right bar at the beginning you should see the Rosa Linux logo.

What didn't work for me was the -tofocus thing, just setting the "speed" at 1, the oneko doesn't move anywhere.
