How to use Konqueror with Webkit

Many of us know Konqueror, the web and file browser that comes by default in KDE and what uses the motor KHTML, where did it come from W (I read some of that). Konqueror that KDE which Internet Explorer a Windows : )

The question is, what KHTML It does not behave as well as we would like, because some elements of the web pages are not displayed correctly, but we have the option of using web kit so let's see how to do it.

The first thing we need is to have the package installed kpart-webkit, at least in Debian it has that name. If we don't have it, we already know what to do, we open a terminal and put:

$ sudo aptitude install kpart-webkit

Automatically when we go to Konqueror »Preferences» Configure Konqueror we will see selected web kit as a motor:

Now .. my personal opinion of Konqueror It is not the best we say .. I feel much slower than the rest of the alternatives, and it lacks functionality and customization options.

But it is not so bad .. In fact right now I am giving him the opportunity to accompany me along with Firefox.. let's see how he behaves 😀

As you said, we should give it a chance, although to be honest I don't give Konqueror much hope ... maybe it's the same thing that happens with IE, unless everything fails you don't need it

I would like you to leave it for kde to adopt rekonq as its official browser (that way they would pay more attention to it)

I used konqueror for years, while using kde and it is good when used with webkit, it is a light and fast browser, it has what it takes to work and it does not consume all system resources (firefox) and it is not spyware (chrome)

I'm not a Konkeror user, but I'd like to try it (since I can't delete it, so as not to waste space… XD), but I have a couple of questions:

    1) Does the webkit allow to use the new version of google? (at the moment when I enter she shows me the old woman)
    2) How do I configure the user agent? (I wish that desdelinux put since the distro came in)

I just tried google, it doesn't work: /

I just tried this option and it works fine for now. I will try Konqueror.

    Health.

It is the first time that I use konqueror for more than 1 hour, fast, and until now nothing strange.

Maybe I am wrong but as far as I understand konqueror has not received updates for a long time. This is why many KDE distributions have Rekonq installed by default.

I'm going to try thanks 😀

Because Konqueror doesn't adopt webkit as its default engine and voila!

Konqueror is a browser like any other and it is up to everyone to use it or not, it all depends on our needs. What I like about Konqueror compared to others is that it consumes few resources, in my opinion it is just as fast as the others, you can open a website in one tab and a system directory in another, this is productive for me; for those who complain about the appearance of the applications: it integrates well with KDE (it is part of the XD itself), its download manager allows downloading all the images or in some cases videos from a site without the need to install any plugin, among other things that for now do not come to mind.
Although it is true that it lacks many things to compare with the giant Firefox or that Chrome thing. While it is not the best there can be, I have always given it a chance.
    regards

5 min of using it with this modification and it still doesn't quite square me hahaha no way I guess I don't adapt to this web explorer

For a long time I have wanted to give konqueror a try, I always try to use it and it does not last a day, it will be a matter of using it for a longer time to really analyze how it behaves.

I think other distros the package is usually called Kwebkitpart. I am a bit sorry for Konqueror: there was a time when he was synonymous with KDE. He did everything. May it be reborn.

We should talk to the people at KDE to see why they still have Konqueror.
Be careful, it is true that Konqueror was for years the workhorse and flagship of the desktop since it has the dual functionality of working both as a local file manager and as facilitating web browsing, and this I think came from the hand in its moment because Microsoft had proposed to unify Explorer and IE in a single application ahead of what would be the "cloud" era. Hence, it was a good idea, they did it well, whether or not they had the technical resources to do it or it was a good idea to do it on a platform like Windows where IE and Explorer have such a deep integration with the system is another topic.

rekonq despite all the work it has on it continues to have many failures, personally I find Qupzilla a better option. Dolphin, on the other hand, is the best file manager of any platform, there is no doubt about that and we add to that its integration with Nepomuk that allows trivially managing files and directories based on their modification date, it is a goal for bow to bow.

For more emotional charge that Konqueror has, I think it is inevitable that at some point it will retire since its functionality is widely surpassed today by more modern design applications 😛

    Long live Konqueror!

The truth is that with Chrome and Firefox it is rare that someone uses something else ...

When using it with webkit it improves the behavior a lot, thanks for the Elav tip !!

After configuring it completely it looks pretty good, I like it.

    Cheers(:

Diego, how did you make konqueror show your distro? I tried to modify the useragent but the ones that come by default do not let me modify them to show the distro I use.

      1.    msx said

Although I am not Diego, I answer you the same:
go to http://www.useragentstring.com and copy the string it shows you there, then add the name of your distro and desktop after the Linux version separated by semicolons, for example:

        […] Linux x86_64; your_distro; KDE) […]

        1.    federico said

Thanks msx !! I was able to follow those steps in http://www.useragentstring.com but the konqueror does not allow to change the useragent manually, in the link that you gave me it recognizes the change, but I cannot translate it into the konqueror.

          1.    msx said

            True! 😛
I still ask: does it make sense to use Konqueror? Existing rekonq, Arora or Qupzilla, all lightweight, powerful and customizable webkit browsers I don't know to what extent Konqueror is worth using 😛
            Regards!

I've been using kde for a long time and just now I'm giving konqueror a chance, I tell you that it is quite light, visually it is not at the level of the greats like Firefox, Chrome / Chromium or Opera but in general it works quite well, in I actually want to use it out of curiosity.
thanks for the tip and a big hug !!
