HP will give official support to Ubuntu in its Proliant

One at a good time for fans of Ubuntu Server, well since extremetech.com this news comes to us about Ubuntu Server y HP.

HP has decided to officially support the server version of Ubuntu in its Proliant, current and future hardware. Specifically the next version 12.04 that will see the light in a few days, but ... what does all this mean?

Simple ... customers who use Proliant and also this distro, will have a guarantee of hardware support from HP. So far (and as I read), this does not mean that anyone can call HP with the expectation that they will solve the problem they may have with their server, but that if you have this distro installed on an HP Proliant, when calling them asking for support NO you will automatically lose support as apparently happens now. I know it's not really much, or not as much as you want ... but well, little by little 🙂

Canonical has a large following, as well as an equal (or more) naysayers. However so far as it says Chris kenyon (Canonical Vice President of OEM Services): "Everything we have been working on in recent years, has been crystallized (carried out) in the same moment«

And yes, no matter how many successes or errors this CIA has had, its achievements have already been several:

  • Ubuntu tv
  • Android + Ubuntu
  • Unity (Even with all the flaws it has, yes, it is an achievement, because it is a Shell that they have created, how many have done this besides themselves? … Only Gnome and Mint)
  • Ubuntu on Dell

Anyway, I'm not a follower of Canonical (Although it may seem so at times), but both the good as well as the bad must be recognized or mentioned, and that the No.1 seller of computers in the world (HP) support Ubuntu Server in its Proliant, is certainly good news.

We will see what comes out of all this 😀

regards

Interesting, not really, but it's good news.

What I like about HP are their printers on both debian, ubuntu and mint, you don't have to do anything to make them work, just connect them XD.

good in debian testing if you can in the stable yes you will have to configure by hand if the printer is very new.

Why am I talking about Printers?

so HP the best in printers in computers, hmm not so much.

My hp only likes it for printers, the laps look nice but they break like plastic and finally xD….

I have a hp laptop and there is nothing to give it, I dropped it a lot of times and at most the aluminum dents

Well, I don't like it as expected, the initiative is rather arbitrary.

Wouldn't it be better to choose the distro instead of imposing it?

they choose ubuntu for all the work canonical does to make it a certified OS with documentation and support. but as always, people like you appear who don't see all the work

        Hahaha.

Well I declare to you ubunto

What job do you say? The one that Mandrake did to bring Linux to the common user, for example?

To my knowledge Canoni $ oft has done nothing apart from marketing

I agree with Pandev92 that hp pcs break down very easily. I say because I have a mini hp that I see as it has been deteriorating. First the charger, then the battery, then the keyboard. I'm already thinking of replacing it with a dell or a lenovo.
According to Courage I am also an ubiquitous and although I do not share Canonical's decisions 100%, I believe that here we are talking about servers and their technical support, not the desktop distribution that he despises so much.

My laptop is HP and so far I have no complaints about it, and I have been using it (and a lot) for almost 3 or 4 years. Oh, and I had a 100% HP PC ... and fucking strange, I had to sell it for major reasons ... but it was phenomenal, really no complaints.

So far I prefer HP over any other manufacturer, because my experience with their equipment has been excellent 😀
