Since yesterday we have available version 8 of Iceweasel en Debian Testing, although in reality it does not matter to me because I continue using Chromium.
As Firefox, Iceweasel with 2 tabs open it consumes me more than 100 MbWhile Chromium does not exceed 70 Mb. But anyway, if we want to install it in Debian we have to put the Debian Testing repositories in our sources.list
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
Update and install iceweasel:
$ sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install iceweasel iceweasel-l10n-es-es
Well, I have my doubts about which really consumes more.
Recently, having my PC in repair, I had to use an old laptop with only 512 MB of RAM and 1 Intel Pentium M 4.
The fact is that I installed a distro based on MEPIS with fluxbox, and to navigate with Chromium, which opened several tabs gave an error, it would crash. With Firefox 7.0.1 it was slow if I opened many tabs but it was going, and with few it was pretty good for the shitty laptop that is.
Laptop shit you say? A PC with 512Mb of RAM for us is a decent thing. Well, I don't know which version of Chromium you were using, but on my PC (well, rather, on my work PC) with 1Gb of RAM, Chromium 15 behaves much better than Iceweasel / Firefox .. 😀
Well Simon, what you consider a shitty PC, here in my country is considered a decent PC 😀 I don't know which version of Chromium you are using, but on my work PC with 1Gb of RAM, it behaves better than Iceweasel with version 15.

Traitor, hahahahaha.
I am not a traitor, Mozilla is simply not offering me what I need.
Entries of this type are welcome: available… in debian testing
Thank you
Good to know, thanks 😀
Hi Elav. As always, thanks for your articles; also thanks to Gaara for his. They really are producing quite a bit. I wish I had that discipline and start my own blog. Well, I just wanted to ask a question: what are the differences between Firefox and Iceweasel? I thought they had something in common, but I don't know what it is; I also don't know what makes them different. Thank you.
Thanks for your words Carlos-Xfce:
It is true that maintaining a blog is complicated at times, you have to put a lot of desire and willpower into it, but when you read comments like yours, you get motivated. Of course, when you also charge for writing and earn good money (it is not our case) it is also motivated hahahahaha .. Nothing, going back to the matter:
The difference between Iceweasel and Firefox in theory is only given by the name they use. According to the Debian Philosophy they could not use the name of Firefox because not that which license does not allow it, in short, what they did was make a fork and change the name. Now, they may have made a change internally, or they haven't compiled it with some parameter, I don't know. For a user it should be completely transparent.
Hello, me again. I don't know what happens to my LMDE. I had Firefox 7, I updated one day (when version 8 had already come out) and I put 5. Now, I just installed the Iceweasel as it says here and, when I open it, it opens the tabs that I had in Firefox and the Iceweasel version it is also 5. I like LMDE a lot but I have had many problems with the &% $ @ € ¿!!! Firefox.
The problem is the following:
LMDE installs Firefox 5 in / opt and enters an update, it overwrites everything that is there. Maybe you put version 7 in that folder and what I just told you happened. I don't use LMDE now, but I suppose that a newer version of Iceweasel must already have entered the LMDE repositories since we have version 8 in Debian Testing.
Me again. In my previous comment there is a problem with the closing of parentheses next to the "8" of the version of Firefox I was talking about: he put on his face with dark glasses.
I prefer iceweasel, I like its appearance, its navigation bar, in terms of ram consumption, I have no problem, but I have even read some comments in other blogs in favor of iceweasel as far as ram consumption is concerned, in conclusion, I have both installed but I prefer iceweasel.
Welcome Sigmund:
It's your choice and we respect that 😀
