At least this is the conclusion that I take when seeing the statistics of the survey that we carried out here in Let's Use Linux. Actually, this is something that makes sense: installing "from scratch" assumes that we are installing the system just as the Ubuntu developers intended. |
Out of a total of 112 votes, 54 had no problems installing, while 17 did have a problem installing; Among those who decided to upgrade their old Karmic, 21 had no problem and 18 experienced a mishap.
This means that, by comparison, not only were many more who decided to install from scratch rather than upgrade, but also that decision was highly effective as they ran into fewer problems. The problem rate when upgrading Karmic is 21 to 18, while Lucid's clean-up rate was 54 to 17 - the difference is abysmal.
So, if you have to go over there ... make the necessary backup, delete everything and install from scratch.
