Jami: a new platform for free and universal communication

Jami is the new name of the old application called Ring. Of which in 2 previous opportunities we have talked about it. The first time in the 2016 article named «Ring: A replacement for Skype on GNU / Linux»And then in another from 2018 called«Essential and important applications for GNU / Linux 2018/2019«.

Starting this year, 2019, the Ring app project became Jami. To become a much more free and universal project, more open to the communities of users and developers of Free Software and Open Source, and to the Business and Corporate sectors.

Jami: Introduction

Its current developers describe Jami as:

"Jami is a free and universal communication platform that protects the privacy and freedoms of its users."

And in his new official web portal they clearly say that now it is an application:

"Designed for the general public as well as for industry, Jami aims to provide all its users with a universal, free, secure communication tool, and built on a distributed architecture that does not require authorities or central servers to operate."

Jami on the one hand can be appreciated as a simple messaging application, that is, an app for text messages, audio and video calls, file transfer, videoconferencing, among other things. But what it really does to Jami being different is the underlying technology that supports it.

In addition to now allowing more free and open contributions to the development of the same, and the more effective reception of the necessary and pertinent help and suggestions, on the part of your entire community, who so actively collaborate in the development and improvement of Jami.
