KDE Applications 18.08

The KDE Project announced today the availability of KDE Applications 18.08 for the KDE Plasma graphical environment and other distributions that use KDE applications.

KDE Applications began its development several months ago and it is until today that the first stable version is launched, which will arrive in the next few days to the software repositories of the different distributions.

This is a major update that brings many improvements across multiple applications including Dolphin, Konsole, Gwenview, Kmail, Akonadi, Cantor, Spectacle and many others.

This is the most relevant of KDE Applications 18.08

The star of this update is undoubtedly Gwenview, the KDE image viewer and organizer, with dozens of new features and improvements among which we can mention the support to sort images by rating and descending order, better support for dragging and solar, plus a new and improved resize window that now allows users to resize images by size.

Gwenview also received support for the Red-Eye Reduction tool, SVG support and a new "Nothing" option for the image background selector, now it is possible to activate the zoom through the mouse, click and even switch between stretching on screen. and 100% zoom with the third mouse button, among many other actions.

KDE Applications 18.08 modernize the Dolphin file manager settings box which is now more intuitive and follows the design lines of KDE Plasma, new support for HiDPI displays and the ability to change the view mode directly is added.

Dolphin is now 12 times faster when sorting files by modification date and time, allows launching the file manager when they entered with root permissions. On the other hand, the option of “Create new”Was removed when viewing the trash and various other memory issues were fixed.

KDE Applications 18.08 will be supported for three to four more months, until it is released KDE Applications 18.12 later this year. You will receive three maintenance updates starting September 6 with KDE Applications 18.08.1, continuing with KDE Applications 18.08.2 on October 11 and ending with KDE Applications 18.08.3 the November 8.
