KDE Plasma Mobile 6 Screenshots
Along with the release of the new version of KDE Plasma 6, the developers of the KDE Plasma Mobile project announced the new edition of the KDE Plasma 6 user environment designed specifically for mobile devices.
This edition, like the desktop version of KDE Plasma 6, has been ported to use Qt 6 and uses a set of updated KDE Frameworks 6 libraries.
KDE Plasma Mobile 6 Key New Features
This new version of KDE Plasma Mobile Folio home screen has been completely rewritten, allowing flexible organization of apps and widgets, creation of themed folders, search for apps and content, as well as import and export of home screen layouts.
Another highlight of this new version, it is the initial configuration interface. Upon first startup, it allows the user to quickly configure Wi-Fi, cellular settings, time zone, zoom level, and screen brightness.
In addition to this, KDE Plasma Mobile 6 integrates a new configuration management service, which automates work with configuration files and guarantees portability between desktop and mobile edition.
Also stands out setting vibration signal and flashlight, which allows you to adjust the vibration speed and light brightness, a new authentication dialog, optimized for mobile device screens and the new docked window mode, which adds buttons to minimize, expand and close windows, especially useful on tablets with large screens or when connecting peripherals to a smartphone.
In Calculator, the mathematical calculation engine has been moved to libqalculate. Among the improvements, the display of transaction history stands out and offers advanced configuration options, as well as the possibility of deleting elements from the history. It also has a new configuration page to select units of measurement, precision and expression analysis method. Automatically changed font size for long expressions, added support for random numbers, differentials, standard deviations, etc.
En Kasts, several significant improvements have been made, and the process of updating podcasts has been accelerated by eliminating unnecessary RSS analysis of unchanged feeds. Additionally, minor changes have been made to the interface to improve the user experience. Users now have the ability to manually select a color theme based on their preferences. Periodic connection status checking when connecting via mobile operators has also been disabled, which helps reduce data consumption and improve app efficiency.
Of the other changes that stand out of this new version:
- Added option in virtual keyboard switch permanent display bottom navigation bar
- Switching between applications, which has now been designed as an effect for KWin, simplifying maintenance.
- Improvements in pre-installed applications
- The Clock mutes other sounds and pauses playback when an alarm or timer sounds.
- Hash-o-Matic: New application to calculate hashes, compare files and verify integrity using digital signatures.
- The color theme (e.g. Light Breeze, Dark Breeze) can now be selected manually.
- Network checks for metered connections can now be disabled entirely.
On the other hand, some problems are also mentioned that have not yet been solved and that are expected to be solved in subsequent releases:
- Scrolling on Qt6 with a touch screen has very low inertia compared to Qt5.
- Some home screen widgets open popups every time they are moved
- Limited widget selection.
- The quick screen recording settings have been removed for the time being.
- Gestures-only mode has been removed for the time being.
- Sometimes application windows extend below the navigation bar.
- The task switcher is slow particularly on the PinePhone.
