Kingsoft Office, a way to attract new users

2013-10-11-143552_644x439_scrot

I had already told you a problem that I had in Kingsoft Office (or wps office, whatever you want to call it) that I have solved with ease, and now it is time to give my opinion on this new alternative.

Some of the complaints of my clients is that they do not have a suite at the height of Microsoft Office, since they consider that the interface for example of LibreOffice is very outdated. I certainly do not agree since I consider that the Ribbon interface is not viable in terms of usability since it requires many more clicks and wastes too much vertical space for my taste.

Leaving aside my opinion, it must be borne in mind that the client is always right and in this sense Kingsoft Office plays an important role in convincing my clients to migrate to GNU / Linux since they realize that here we have what you need.

Now speaking of compatibility with proprietary Microsoft Office formats, it is true that it is a little (slightly) better in this aspect than LibreOffice but it does not reach a 99% compatibility as some claim.

I have noticed for example in the case of the well-known Arial font that it is slightly different. The above is not really a big problem; What is a problem is that on some occasions, when in a document written in Microsoft Office, we have one page, then when viewing it in Kingsoft Office we have two and this is probably due to the number of pixels that Kingsoft office uses to separate one line and another is slightly larger.

One aspect in its favor in the matter of compatibility is that, for example, we do not get these gray boxes that usually appear in LibreOffice and that replace "a space" when we open .doc or .docx files.

All the bad things that I tell you about Kingsoft office are of course things that you observe with a magnifying glass since at first glance the client thinks that everything is perfect and that's a plus point. In short, I see Kingsoft office more as a way to convince my clients, although with China on our side, we hope that it will reach 100% compatibility in the term of 1 year.

To be honest, the Kingsoft Office system is pretty cool. As it is still in the Alpha phase, it is easy for you to find some errors, as in my case I have my CV that I edited first in Google Docs, and then in MS Office 2007, and finally, when I wanted to edit it in Kingsoft Office, I it shows it in the worst possible way. In short, it is a problem to solve.

Even so, this office suite shows that it is quite robust even though it is at an early enough stage to be considered stable. Anyway, I will support both LibreOffice and Kingston Office (the first for the .odt standard, and the second for the Microsoft Office paradigm that many are reluctant to migrate to GNU / Linux).

you are right. As I told you, let's wait 6 to 12 months so that the compatibility is 100 percent. It is not that I have already read it but I am optimistic that in that lapse of time China will do some business with Microsoft to solve the compatibility problem

One doubt is compatible with Debian 7 and what difference exists between kingston office, libre office 4.x and apache open office 4.x which is better for the Debian environment, I see them very similar.

I am of the same opinion as neysonv, I like LibreOffice and I like its interface better. The only downside is the support for OOXML formats (MS Office 97-2003 binary support I would say is pretty good), which is better in WPS Office, which may also be liked more by people who are very attached to MS Office and its interface, so I think it is good to have this suite even if it is private. The only thing missing is to be translated into Spanish. The language files to translate them are already available on Github, let's see if there are people who are encouraged and soon we have WPS Office in Spanish:

Exactly, personally the fact that it is translated into Spanish would benefit me a lot. The other day I was tinkering with the issue of translations I translated two nonsense but when I have something solid I upload it to the github project

I have thought of helping, even if only a little, but the fact is that the translation started is from Spanish from Peru and I am from Spain. I really don't think there are many differences when it comes to translating a program, but I don't know if it would be better to contribute to that translation already started or to start one from scratch.

By the way, speaking of the interface, I just installed Kingsoft Office for testing (yes, I did it on Windows, I didn't want to install the 32-bit libraries on Kubuntu ...), and I found that the interface can be changed to classic style! = D

In Peru, we have become so dependent on Office that as soon as Kingsoft Office came out, we were interested in translating it.

In my case, I am already using the Alpha 11 version on my PC with Debian.

Kingsoft Office developers are developing 64-bit architecture.
The news comes from developer Chizhong Jin.

KingSoft Office has already released its Alpha 12 version for GNU / LINUX.
the new interface is more minimalist in the ALPHA 12. How weird that you have uploaded an image of the old KingSoft Office.

Oops el screenshot es de la beta 1 ya que lo instale siguiendo este tutorial de desdelinux http://community.wps.cn/download/ Thanks for the information and I will test the alpha 12 to see what such although for being alpha I suppose it is more unstable. by the way as I see it seems that the alpha 12 is more attacking the MO 2010 no ???

It's true, many don't go through MSOffice. I know too many, almost including myself (although I am already used to Libreoffice, and I think it's a matter of that, getting used to it ... I'm no longer one of those who believe that MSOffice is superior to LibreOffice, they are just different).

Now, about the compatibility… .. LET'S ALL START USING ODT INSTEAD OF DOCX XD XD XD…

I would envy the WPSOffice tabs. That should be in LibreOffice.

Does anyone know if the new version has improved font rendering? That is the only downside that I have found, if the text is not read well it is difficult for me to work ... it is not that it cannot be read but that it does not fit with the clarity of LO or other applications. (I use Ubuntu 13.04).

Testing ... It seems to be a good alternative.

Incredible that Kingsonft Office has better docx compatibility than LibreOffice, being that LibreOffice has the backing of a large community that has been working for a long time, and even so it will not be able to overcome MS Office compatibility.

I tried the first alphas and for the same reason it had many deficiencies, but I am going to test it now to see how much they have improved 🙂

It seems that linux becomes Windows.

Never for the simple fact of being free software in principle, that one decides to use software with licenses other than the GPL of Mr. Guru Richard is a matter of oneself, for convenience and taste, and genres are broken. I support KS office as it makes the change of office automation very friendly, which libreoffice forgot 🙁

      1.    kik1n said

        Hahaha, calm down, no problem.
Be it GPL, BSD, Linux, Windows, MacOSX, FreeBSD ... As long as it serves and fulfills my ridiculous requests, I install it.

I simply need MS office 2010 for productivity, so I use wine, essentially to edit files that are in MS formats. If I started from scratch then it could be said that it would be good to use libreoffice and kingsoft office which in my opinion is a good incentive for winbug users to switch to gnu / linux, for the moment I only hope that the world of Gaming PC migrate to gnu / linux and kingsoft office is in a very stable version in Spanish and with dictionaries.

    1.    kik1n said

There is no need to explain why one uses Win.
If you use it, ready and what, I use it and thousands of other people. I have no doubt, those who maintain Debian, Gentoo, Slackware, etc ... They use Win up to MacOsx.

Now if you want to see yourself as a religious fanatic and point the finger, blast those who don't think like you ... and you.

Libreoffice is very good, but I really like the kingsoft office solution better, although I particularly like the libreoffice math and draw applications, which we also don't find in Ms Office. It would be great if Kingsoft added support for the odf format

What letter in wps office can I use to replace the Arial font?

  15.   Jhonny said

In recent months, kingsoft office has already improved, it already comes with the Spanish version and the revision dictionary in Spanish, although it still needs a bit to improve but it has improved a lot.
The only problem I have is that because I am a university student, I need to enter bibliographic citations in APA Standard and Microsoft Office gives me that option that facilitates the organization of these appointments, which is needed in Kinsoft Office, if you could add it, it would be great.
