Does Kubuntu change owner or sponsor? ¬_¬

This news has quickly echoed online, the simple fact that now Kubuntu change "sponsor", will no longer be 'sponsored' by Canonical but BlueSystems.

I ask ... how many consider Canonical as a sponsor of Kubuntu? ... well, at least I always thought Canonical was the owner of Kubuntu, and this leads me to the next question:

"Did Kubuntu change ownership?"

When Canonical decided simply Discard Kubuntu, many of us are happy ... we are relieved, because this distro would not suffer the whims of Canonical, we thought that now it would not belong to anyone, nobody would have any right to decide what to do or not to do ... the community would have the only word, but it happens I'm not really sure now.

BlueSystems … Is it really a sponsor, or an owner? ¬_¬

They have previously sponsored other projects related to KDE, as they are Netrunner and (WTF !!) Linux Mint KDE.

Kubuntu, which once again (in a long time) was interesting again (at least for me), I think now it could become a bit confusing, because it is no secret, the new boss will impose his priorities, precisely for that reason he wants BlueSystems be a sponsor and not another owner 🙁

Anyway, in 1 year we will see what we collect and that will give us the measure of what we sow 🙂

This is good news for the moment, as the guys from BlueSystem They have said that they will donate money for the project (payment of servers, hardware upgrades, promotion, etc), as well as want to speak with Canonical about Kubuntu as a registered trademark, well ... yes already Kubuntu does not belong to Canonical (I mean the distro), the logical thing is that the name or brand (Kubuntu) is not owned by Canonical no? These data have been provided by the boys of H-Online.

The most convenient thing is to change the name ... because Kubuntu comes from "ubuntu" without the K It keeps saying ubuntu .. so I think that to avoid future problems that are separated from the ubuntu termination and are called something else ..

since the sponsor or owner is called Blue System .. so call Klue System

or as its base belongs to debian that they are called kabian I dont know ..

that they put the name that is but that does not have rhyme with the ending ubuntu

Kebian ahahahahaha xD the name that just occurred to me makes me laugh a lot xD

    1.    proper said

Or it could be "Klue OS".

So if they get to acquire the name kubuntu will netrunner disappear?

  3.   Merlin The Debianite said

Well, I don't know, I hardly use kde, I like xfce or mate (gnome2) better.

The truth should be to change the name since kubuntu never really seemed like it would have names like: Klinux, KDEbian, Kebian? that sounded weird right?

They can also choose since it is blue system they can put System with KDE of GNU / Linux (SKGL) also put the u interleaved from kubuntu SuKuGuLu.

hahahahaha Sukugulu what a good name that is. they shouldn't really rename it like the one above.
    Hahaha

sorry is that the name is kind of funny. sukugulu XD.

    1.    jamin samuel said

yes it is xD like mine «Kebian» AJAJAJAJAJA

noo but I really like your proposals

      - Klinux
      - KDEbian

      They both sound great 🙂

  4.   Saito said

I prefer that the name remains the same 😉

will have problems with the original company ubuntu .. I don't think the ubuntu name is GPL

      1.    sieg84 said

In the article it says that kubuntu is a canonical trademark ...

        1.    jamin samuel said

exactly .. therefore the safest thing is that the name will be changed

  5.   William Abrego said

Well, if it is for the good of the project there is no problem with it being renamed, I wish the same would happen with Xubuntu which is even more forgotten than Kubuntu, and the truth has a lot of potential

days ago it was announced that canonical would no longer support kubuntu, after 12.04, (http://www.desarrolloweb.com/actualidad/canonical-adios-kubuntu-6506.html) I was in limbo for a few days, since it was later announced that the "community" would continue with the development of kubuntu, (http://www.meneame.net/story/kubuntu-pierde-estatus-distribucion-oficial), and now there was someone who gave $ support to kubuntu, according to it was said that canonical did not see a future for kubuntu,

I suppose that the recent addition of Lubuntu 11.10 with Canonical had something to do with this, some years ago I used Kubuntu, but due to the high requirements of KDE I opted for Lubuntu since 11.04.

    Do you like that company?

As a company, no, I just don't share many decisions they have made.

Well, it seems that you do not like him. With this article it seems that you just want to keep adding fuel to Canonical for insignificant things. You thought the translation of "sponsor" meant "sponsor," so what is the point of this article?

        1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

It is not about adding fuel, it is about the fact that the news of the new sponsor (… hehe yes, I know VERY well what the translation is) may or may not be entirely positive.

          Welcome to the site 😉

Canonical really only paid one Kubuntu developer, out of about 25 there are, so it didn't contribute much either. In theory Blue Systems will continue to do the same, paying that developer (full time) (by the way, the dev is the creator of Kubuntu) but not the others. The good thing is that it will also pay for infrastructures etc, etc.

I don't think the change is too big, but it's nice to know that the father of Kubuntu will be able to continue making a living from his own product, which in my opinion is a great thing.

Blue Systems is known between nothing and zero, the only thing I know is that they don't know how to make eye-catching web pages xD the important thing is that they put money in and make Kubuntu a distro with a lot of feedback from the community, that would be fantastic.

The next version of Kubuntu promises a lot, one of the things that I don't like about this distro is Muon (because of the amount of errors it has, seriously), luckily the new versions are much more stable, if not… -. -

In principle and waiting for more information, I think it is good news. All the helps are good.

I was a Kubuntu user for a few years, I have never liked Gnome and Kubuntu was a good alternative. But the vagaries of Canonical, finally fed me up and that's when I decided on Debian with KDE.

In my opinion, it was a wise decision, I have learned a lot after that.

    Greetings.

Brother excuse the question .. is it healthy to install debian Sid?

And what difference does this branch have with ubuntu?

Who updates faster ubuntu or debian sid?

Would you recommend an ubuntu user to install debian sid?

      1.    shiba87 said

Ubuntu is Cycling release and the Unstable branch of Debian is technically a Rolling release.

Ubuntu does not update anything (or almost) until a new version of the distribution is released, while in Debian Unstable the packages are updated continuously

Recommended for common use / desktop would be Debian Testing,

        1.    Windousian said

Kubuntu updates the KDE packages every so often. There are not many differences between a Kubuntu 12.04 and an updated Kubuntu 11.10.

      2.    José Miguel said

Sorry for the delay, but between my blog and everything else ...

See, basically the differences are due to the packages.

In "Debian Stable", by default you do not have the latest versions, however you can add "Testing" repositories and do a "Mix". In this way you can select the important applications and be up to date.

If you want to be up to date, "Debian Testing".

About "Sid" or "Unstable", I do not recommend it, its stability is not good. It would not be a good choice for a desktop.

        Greetings.

win or fail? and there is the question!

I do not think I should change my name, because it will still be ubuntu, the day it is debian as Canaima for example, because if another name should have, don't you think?

  12.   Windousian said

Blue Systems has promised not to meddle in the decisions made by the Kubuntu community. Soon we will see if they have a word, Riddell is not shy when it comes to announcing things.

    1.    kondur05 said

It would be nice to ask the science ministry people for kde in canaima and call it kanaima!
