Kuesa 3D 1.2, a tool to create 3D applications based on Qt 3D

KDAB developers unveiled the launch of the new version of the toolkit Kuesa 3D 1.2, which provides tools to create 3D applications based on Qt 3D.

The project aims to simplify designer collaboration that create models in packages like Blender, Maya and 3ds Max and developers who write application code using Qt. Working with models is independent of writing code and Kuesa acts as a link to combine these processes.

Provides a 3D model in QT to solve creation tasks and integration of 3D resources, such as importing models in glTF 2 format (GL Streaming Format), the creation of drivers to access and manipulate downloaded content and the use of materials based on PBR (Physically Based Rendering), adding effects when rendering.

About Kuesa 3D

To quickly create projects that use Kuesa, a template is proposed for Qt Creator, while to simplify the work of designers and developers, the KUESA 3D Studio environment is proposed.

This allows designers to focus on working with 3D content and change its appearance in real time, and developers can integrate the result of the designer's work with the simple API, while controlling all aspects of 3D content at the code level.

Kuesa 3D Studio enables designers, using the tools they know and love, to realize and adjust their vision in real time with no loss of quality, easily iterating designs as needed.

Kuesa 3D Studio offers developers a high-level APIl that allows them to easily integrate the output into a software environment, with full code-level access to fine-tune all aspects of 3D content. Kuesa 3D Studio is available under license from KDAB for full deployment on all supported platforms.

Traditionally, there are two main workflows for integrating 3D content in real time in an application:

  1. Handcrafted workflow: designers create videos of the scenes and developers recreate them in code, leading to a lot of communication overhead, misunderstandings, and suboptimal results.
  2. Tool external workflow: Designers and developers work on a common tool to edit the scene to integrate it into the application, limiting both the tool's constraints and creating a black box that provides little control.

Kuesa 3D Studio provides an easy, integrated and unified workflow without any obligation for designers and developers offering:

  • Great performance on both desktop and onboard boards
  • high-quality real-time 3D scenes
  • total expressiveness for designers, using professional 3D design tools
  • full integration control for developers
  • extremely fast update workflow
  • Reduction of time to market.
  • The workflow is based on the glTF ™ (GL Streaming Format) format designed by the Khronos Group, a royalty-free specification for efficient streaming and loading of 3D scenes and models by applications that support vendor extension.

What's new in Kuesa 3D 1.2?

In the new version the support for Qt 5.15, support for Iro material library with materials that simulate reflections, transparent layers of paint or simple transparent surfaces.

In addition, the support for a new branch of the Blender 3x 2.8D modeling system.

The glTF extension EXT_property_animation, which lets you animate any type of object transformation property (displacement, scale, rotation).

For example, you can create material, camera, and light animation properties in Blender and export the scene in glTF format for loading with the Kuesa 3D Runtime.
