LDD: Nosonja is Arch + XFCE, very easy

Without fanaticism or with the desire to start «distro-wars», we present a new edition of the section «The Unknown Dimension (LDD): there is Linux beyond Ubuntu«. The goal: to discover new little-known GNU / Linux distributions.

In this opportunity, we will analyze Nosonja, a-tremendous- distribution based en Arch Linux but much more «amicable»For newcomers. Also, it comes by default with XFCE, a very powerful and lightweight desktop environment.

Nosonja Linux with PacmanXG

If one strong point of Nosonja Linux should be highlighted, it is that it brings Arch Linux closer to all those users who are not advanced but who would like to be able to enjoy all the advantages of the development model of the base distribution without having to breaking your head with the installation and configuration that Arch Linux normally demands.

This idea is very similar to Archbang, another Arch Linux-based distribution that comes with Openbox by default. However, Nosonja differs from that one as it comes with the XFCE desktop environment and brings some extra "goodies", such as a visual interface to handle the Pacman package manager.

Key features

  • rolling release
  • LibreOffice Installer
  • PacmanXG - Graphic Manager for Pacman, the package manager
  • Chromium - Internet Browser
  • Mirage - Image Viewer
  • Emesene - Instant Messaging
  • Pidgin - Instant Messaging Client
  • VLC - Video Player
  • Audacious - Music Player
  • Transmission - BitTorrent Client

  • BleachBit - To clean all files that are unnecessary
  • GParted - Partition Editor
  • Compiz - It is installed, but not activated by default

Minimum requirements:

  • They are not specified on the Nosonja website but, in principle, they would be the same as for executing XFCE… very low.

Desktop environments: It comes with XFCE by default but any other can be installed once the system installation is finished.

Package system: tar.gz (just like Arch).

Installation: It comes with the old Arch graphical wizard to make installation very easy.

Supports Spanish: yes.

64 bit support: no. There is only a 32-bit version.
