Will Linux Mint KDE benefit from Kubuntu problems?

The news that Canonical will not continue financing the project Kubuntu It has spread like wildfire throughout the network and I do not know to what extent this decision may affect the users of this distribution. What I do know is that this step can bring other consequences with which perhaps, Canonical they did not count.

I may be ahead of events, but Kubuntu has not exactly been one of the strong variants for users of Ubuntu, so I doubt that Community decide to take full charge with this project. That is why I think that users of Kubuntu could take refuge in the Linux Mint KDE for example.

It would not be crazy to think that migration can be en masse, in the end, it is almost the same but with another name and some extra tools. Thus, Linux Mint it could benefit as long as more developers are recruited for this variant, because from what I see, with Cinnamon in between, I don't think the guys from Mint pay close attention to the rest, or at least not what they should.

There are always other alternatives for users of KDE, other specialized distributions in this desktop environment, but for users of Ubuntu I think LM KDE it is the best alternative.

By now everyone will have seen the entrance and it will soon be buried by others but I want to give another approach to the news that inspires elav.
I don't think Linux Mint is the solution for kubunteros. The solution for these is Kubuntu. Getting it into the hands of the community can be beneficial. It will no longer depend on the whims of Canonical and, as long as it provides the infrastructure, I do not see that the project is in danger (guaranteed 5 years of support). Please read what Harald Sitter (Kubuntu contributor) writes on his blog:
    http://apachelog.wordpress.com/2012/02/07/how-kubuntu-did-not-change/

I remember there are 25 people working hard to get Kubuntu 12.04 off the ground. I think they deserve a vote of confidence. It is not the most efficient KDE distribution but it does have good things like compatibility with a large amount of hardware or quite up-to-date repositories.

Well, I have no doubt that Kubuntu will succeed (I hope it will), but we must see to what extent "The Community" will be able to maintain it. I think the most important thing is that they continue to count on Canonical's help in terms of infrastructure (servers, site, domain ... etc) although KDE has definitely not been and will never be a priority for Uncle Mark's company. Hopefully those 25 people don't give up. Time will tell everything.

Distributions like Kubuntu, Fedora, and OpenSUSE inspire more confidence than unstable projects. Linux Mint leaves and returns to KDE whenever it feels like it, how many people are dealing with the KDE version of Linux Mint? How many specialized forums does it have?
It definitely doesn't seem like a good solution to me.

I agree perfectly with you, that Canonical has stopped funding Kubuntu sounds more like a favor than a betrayal to me. At last, Kubuntu will shake off the burden that the Canonical yoke imposed on it. I'm not even talking about LM KDE, if Clem considers LMDE an experiment, I don't want to think of the qualification he gives LM KDE ¬¬. After all, they are first cousins (Clem and Mark XD).

The news that Canonical will no longer fund the Kubuntu project

That's great news because Kubuntu itself goes from being shit to being a real distro that takes the community into account, not as $ huttlegates.

It is also one more step for Canoni $ oft to close Winbuntu, as it is losing money because it sends Kubuntu to hell

Someday we will know what Canonical did to you, in the meantime I will remain attentive to the clues you leave in your comments. I'd like to know what would happen if Canonical goes bankrupt and the buntus end up in the hands of the community. I guess shit wouldn't be shit anymore. Unless you consider Debian and derivatives shit, then you're a "Kiss" tar.gz of care.

No, the problem is the ubuntos and the acts of Canoni $ oft (This is not a democracy, etc). It is not the distro itself, although it gave me problems.

As I always say, Debian is a not very tall blonde babe, what she means is that it is a good distro but it is not my thing

Now I understand you pillín, you are going for tall and liberated brunettes (understand yourself liberated as a woman who does not want complications, just to have fun).

Hopefully Kubuntu goes ahead, it's the only easy-to-install KDE distribution.

Hey but Chakra OpenSuse or Mandriva are easy to install, I don't see what you mean by it's the only easy to install.

      1.    Windousian said

It should be based on your personal experience. There are many distributions that are easily installed. It will have had problems with the sound, the packages, the router or the graphics card in other distributions (although that can also happen to you with Kubuntu).
