Scandal: Linux Mint Absorbs Banshee Profits?

Linux Mint altered code Banshee, the music player that is installed by default, to stay with the 100% of profits from music sales through your Online store.

While this is a move that does not go against Banshee's license, many raised their voices in rechazo of this measure.

In the Ubuntu Banshee you can choose between two music stores, whose profits are shared 75% -25% in favor of Canonical, while the smaller percentage comes directly from Banshee to the GNOME Foundation in the form of a donation.

Buried in the long and endless pages of a German site forum ubuntuuser.de is the surprising relief: Linux Mint has altered the reference code to the Amazon store that is part of Banshee to redirect it to its own store, obtaining 100% of the profits with nothing left for the Banshee or GNOME developers .

This is particularly disappointing because the Banshee site reads as follows: "By purchasing music from the Banshee store integrated into the Amazon MP3 Store, you not only get quality music, but you also support our community."

Clement Lefebvre, Linux Mint project leader, has written a couple of posts in the OMG! Ubuntu! That has sparked the debate.

In the first place, it states that they changed the reference code because they are within their right to do so. And it is clear that this is the case, the license allows it and they are not stealing from anyone, which does not mean that this way of acting is honest.

Second, it says that they have only earned $ 4 through this method in the month of November; a real pittance. However, it does not offer any verifiable evidence to back up those numbers.

Still, they are willing to share the benefits with Bashee as long as the player's developers contact Linux Mint and ask. In that case, will they give you 25% as Canonical, or much more?
