Well, as the title says, the day May 19th 2013 the third version of this distro aimed at new users and those who do not like to play the console a lot. This release is in memory of Eugene Dodonov, a former Mandriva development lead, who passed away last year.
Of novelties, nothing very revolutionary, but that does not mean that it is less. Here are the most important features mentioned in the launch announcement:
- RPM (4.11) and urpmi updates, which have received a good cleanup and support from Mageia
- Kernel 3.8
- systemd 195
- GRUB is the default boot loader. GRUB2 is available for testing.
- A revamped bundle of installation and rpmdrake packages
- KDE 4.10.2
- gnomes 3.6.
- Xfce 4.10
- LibreOffice 4.0.3
- Steam inclusion
Changes were also made to the logo in my opinion for the better, giving it a fresh and modern look. I hope this version is as good or better than Mageia 2, which I personally loved. I will try it until next weekend, in a spare time that I find.

Good distro, although the repositories are not usually very up to date, at least the last time I tried it, in beta 2 ... I think
At the very least, this is Mint's .rpm counterpart (that is, an enhancement to another distro that focused too much on GUIs and not performance).
Congratulations on the launch.
The difference is that Mageia doesn't depend on Mandriva, like Mint does on Ubuntu :).
There is nothing wrong with improving a work already done, Ubuntu is based on Debian and that is good, mint is based on Ubuntu and it is also, they are advantages that only occur in free software.
It doesn't seem bad to me, in fact it seems perfect to me, I just wanted to clarify that the analogy is not completely correct today.
In fact, it's the only thing I didn't like when I was using it, for example Firefox 10 when I was already on version 17 (since they use the Extended Support Release version). Things that, when one is used to having the most current, well, it makes you uncomfortable.
Do you know if mageia is rolling release or can be updated without formatting like Fedora?
mageia is not rolling.
It is not rolling but I think it can be updated to its next version without reinstalling.

As they said, it is not rolling, but it is supposed to be able to be updated from some images, if you click the download button of the post it will send you to the download page (of course hehe: P) there is a section with the images to update without reinstalling.
