Since yesterday the fourth version of this descendant of Mandriva is available.
As a novelty we have that most of the distribution's own tools have taken the step of GTK + 2 a GTK + 3 such as RPMDRAKE or USERDRAKE, for example. In addition, the change of usermode a polkit for authentication as root.
Logically, updating the distribution packages such as:
- RPM 4.11
- Kernel 3.12.8
- systemd 208
- Table 10.0.2
- X.org 1.14
- KDE 4.11.4
- GNOME 3.10.2.1
- LibreOffice 4.1.3.2
- Firefox ESR (that is Firefox 24, they should put the current version)
- … among others
For those who do not support GNOME Shell can now install MATE 1.6 y Cinnamon from the official repos or from the DVD. Are also available Xfce, LXDE y RazorQT; They practically give us a choice.
A nice detail of this edition is MageiaWelcome that appears when you log in for the first time. It gives us a little review of the distro with the option to install popular codecs and apps like Firefox, VLC, Flash, etc.
I strongly recommend this distro, maybe not so much to totally new users but to those who have notion of GNU / Linux and they want a system that is Easy to use and have a good balance between stability and currency.
I for my part already installed it:

Thanks, I had tested Mageia 4 in beta and it works very well, but while I was waiting for the final version to come out I installed Netrunner 13.12 (64) and now I am captivated with it, however I am going to download Mageia and install it on a separate disk and test .
What I like about Netrunner is that I find many .deb and repositories for the programs I need, although Mageia also has a large number ... Well ... the final choice between these two will be difficult to leave as the main system, I'll be attentive to the comments to guide me a bit more.
Well Netrunner comes out of Ubuntu so that's to be expected.
Mageia repos are pretty healthy but when you want something out of them it can give you headaches ... sometimes.
Can any of the admins change that "version"? it left me 😛
I already have it installed and it works very well, I have been with Mageia since its first version, I recommend you if you have not seen it already, that you check this link that I uploaded recently: https://www.google.com/url?q=https://blog.desdelinux.net/mageia-3-que-hacer-despues-de-instalacion-personalizacion-y-mejoras/&sa=U&ei=QKnuUujbMZKA7Qa0iYHYDg&ved=0CAsQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNEQOF1yjcHlC2tzEF6WG6nWEnwiBA
It is a guide on Mageia 3, but it is also valid for this version.
Yes I had seen it, very complete. And in fact as Mageia does not make radical changes it continues to serve.
mandriva or ubuntu which is simpler?
Stability and timeliness. It sounds interesting, I haven't used it, but apparently it's like OpenSUSE. It brings me nostalgia, I'm not sure why I don't prefer it anymore, I think I didn't like that the system did everything for me.
Mageia 4 one of my favorite systems with kde and now includes cinnamon 2.0.4
It looks very cool Mageia 😀
The cool thing is for Caledonia and the fund more than anything.
Do you know if it supports Steam?
If it does.
