Mandriva SA evolves

During these last days, there has been much speculation about the decisions made by the Mandriva SA board of directors, all this in relation to the following statement, published on May 17 on its official blog:

Mandriva Linux will return to the community

Dear Users, friends, followers and supporters of the Mandriva Linux Distribution, after reviewing all your messages, suggestions, ideas and comments, Mandriva SA made the decision to transfer the responsibility for the Mandriva Linux distribution to an independent entity. This means that the future of distribution will no longer be arbitrarily decided by the Mandriva company, we intend to let distribution evolve in and under the responsible care of the community. Mandriva SA, of course, is part of this entity and will support it with direct contributions. This movement is expected to be fulfilled in the coming months, and a working group of community representatives is being launched right now. This working group will be assigned the task of defining the structures, processes and organization of the new entity and will start working in the next few days.

We believe that this new approach is the best way to achieve an optimal relationship between Mandriva Linux and its community and to encourage contributions that will lead to producing the best possible products.

Some blogs echoed the news giving it shades such as: "Mandriva SA ignores the package and passes it on to the community" ¬.¬, given this circumstance, I decided to wait a little longer and not give the news in a "timely" manner, precisely so as not to give rise to this type of conjecture;). Well, today (May 20) in the afternoon, a new statement appears on its official blog, which allows a well-defined route to be drawn of the measures that are being taken and carried out by Mandriva, without more, here the news:

Mandriva SA evolves

Taking into account its environment and its market, Mandriva SA adapts its structure and methods. We will base our products on the future of technologies, collaborations and associations that guarantee the greatest added value to users and customers.

As such, we have decided to adopt a different from the past “one size fits all” approach, seeking the best possible collaboration for each product and service. This will allow us to provide the best response to the needs of our customers. We will base our products as follows:

  • Desktop, OEM Products and Competence Center for Education

Collaboration and exchanges with Mandriva Linux (entity in creation), contributions and support to the project.

  • Server Products

Collaboration and exchange with the Mageia community, contributions to the project.

  • Pulse2 Product

Internal development and contributions to the Mandriva Linux project.

Research Projects

Collaboration and participation in current projects based on signed collaboration agreements.

These collaborations are based on the current situation and landscape in technical, commercial and strategic terms. They will be reviewed regularly and are subject to change if the optimization and development of our products require it.

As you will see, it is more than what many really expected, since, everything goes by the way of mouth, Mandriva passes into the hands of the community (known as Mandriva Linux), counting not only on the support of Mandriva SA (the company), if not also from the Mageia community: D. The only question that exists in my head at the moment would be: Will RosaLabs continue "independently" or in the near future, will it also join forces with Mandriva Linux, Mandriva SA and Mageia? If this materializes, it would be the Dream Distro XD ... Who knows, maybe we are seeing the "Awaken a giant" :).

And you, what do you think about it;).

Well, that restructuring looks good, I hope everything goes the way they want it because I'm a secret lover of Mandriva. I used it, with all its consequences, in a good sense of the word in the 2009 version and I loved it. Then the rest then neither fú nor fa. But it is a distribution that I always follow despite everything and that I would like to have, with all its consequences, again. That everything goes well. And to death I do not like Linux distributions disappear.

Ideally, they all come together in a single distro and thus have a product of the highest quality.

I do not understand then the horoscope xD

If you say it because you can't take into account the results of the distrowatch ranking, I know. But it is always funny to see how the one that everyone said "goes first in distrowatch because it is the best", is surpassed by a distro that is barely a year old

Everything needs to go well, I used Mandrake and I liked it a lot, but Mandriva never, never needs to change. Hopefully all their projects are given to them and they can get ahead ...
