Manually upgrade to WordPress 3.6 without dying in the attempt

wordpress-logo

Upgrade from a version of WordPress to another superior is very easy, so easy that this article will be really short.

Actually since version 2.7 it is not necessary to do this manually, since WordPress includes a system of automatic updates that you will find in Tools »Update  and that changed in version 3.0 to Desktop »Updates.

Everything that follows is done at your own risk. Remember to always have a backup of your WordPress database and files

The first thing we must do is download the latest version of WordPress, if possible in Spanish.

We unzip the folder and we only have to copy or overwrite the new files, for the old ones, except the file wp-config.php or some other that we have modified manually.

Finally, we just have to put in the browser:

http://ruta_de_tu_blog/wp-admin/upgrade.php

And click on the button that says: Update database, or something like that. That's it!! It's over!! Donate !!

Sooo grateful! I did not imagine that the solution was so simple and that, in addition, the response to my request was so fast.

    Again I reiterate my thanks.

    Greetings from Venezuela!

I just clicked "Update" and that's it. *Yao Ming*

I already had backup because BackWPup automatically backs up the entire blog every day and saves it to Dropbox. 😉

I knew that a long time ago, but since I don't use free hosting anymore, I don't use it much.

Now, the problem is with Drupal, since for automatic update drush is used, and for manual update, it is to create a folder as an installation profile and from there update.

That's what you get for betraying WordPress. 😛

No, it's nothing for that. Most of the time it was layer 8 bugs, so it's like you're installing Arch or Slackware for the first time. Nothing else.

Oh, by the way, Drupal 8 is coming, and it will continue to be the same as KISS in terms of BD management and with its usual framework.

Regarding WordPress, I quit because it didn't allow me to put up a decent forum (I don't like BBPress from my subjective perspective, so I like Drupal's advanced forum module).

Drupal and Joomla: I both hate them with all my being, really.

Holy Dio! Burn it up and throw it in the river !! Don't tell me that you prefer WP over Drupal? To Jommla as if you flush it down the toilet, and pull the chain soon it floats!

I choose, I go off the hook and I prefer WordPress a thousand times over Drupal.

In case of having a UNIFIED forum, blog and other service, I recommend using Drupal. That is why I opted for that CMS.

Joomla! I do not like it for nothing. It has been changing from Guatemala to Guatemala, so I decided to use Drupal and not Joomla.

I'm on wordpress.com so I don't have to do anything: trollface:

    1.    Manual of the Source said

And it doesn't let you do almost anything either. 😛

Well, not everyone can have their own server 🙁

Well, I started with free hosting as the son of his mother from 0.00 Webhost.

            ooohhh that hosting sucks xD

    2.    eliotime3000 said

But try to do that on a free Wednesday hosting (0.00 Webhost) and it took forever. So I used the manual method and everything was great, I didn't even need to make backups and my blog was still standing (now they blocked it because its terms and conditions were too ambiguous and the admins trolled me).

At least the trolls are quality. Good thing the Akismet has had a good sense of hunting shoddy trolls.

Hahaha, the worst thing is that it's not trolling. It's serious, I didn't understand. : S

Good contribution, but I would like to know which files wordpress updates when it is done automatically, since I want to modify some manually but I do not know if it loses work when updating
