Meet Vivaldi, an efficient browser in its first edition

Among the alternatives that exist in the world of computing, with respect to web browsing, we find a range of options for this task. Of course, there are always leaders in this area and for this reason they are the first choice among users. At this address and well known among web browsers we have Opera, characterized and oriented to save data. But this time we will not talk about it, but about another browser, the creation of one of the co-founders of Opera, and that this time it is presented in its first official edition. We talk about Vivaldi.

1 ''

Vivaldi was born after the approaches of Opera, in the opinion of its founders, were gradually distorted. The basic idea behind its creation was to make a browser that managed few resources, was fast, and covered all the particular needs of users. After the development of Opera and with the passage of time, plus the addition of new collaborators to the project, many of the initial ideas went in a different direction than those originally established by its founders. Therefore, the conclusion of these was to create a new browser. One that had the orientation they wanted according to one of its founders "A browser that was rich in functionality, highly flexible and with users as the main objective". This is how Vivaldi was born.

1

After more than twelve months of work, this browser makes its debut as Vivaldi 1.0. Bringing with it customization options and features that will improve the user experience in system productivity and efficiency. In more detail we find solutions, such as the stack of tabs; to solve the messy issue and make switching from one tab to another easier. We also found the stack of windows; to view multiple tabs on different pages at the same time. That is, multiple stacks of tabs on your screen.

2

The management of the browser will be more advanced thanks to the sessions; save the activity you are running in your session and then resume it in a next recovery session. On the other hand you can save your notes when you need it; Mark what you want and need or have screenshots, and if you wish, you can return to the site where you were browsing when taking the note, since the browser keeps it registered.

You will have access to the open tabs, bookmarks, history, settings and more through a quick command interface. Get keyboard shortcuts and Speed Dial from any blank tab. Organize folders and groups for more speed dials, accessing bookmarks from a panel for these and being able to manage them. You can see the websites in the Vivaldi sidebar, something that its developers define as similar to a "Boss button" for the web.

3

What makes Vivaldi so adaptable are the customization tools it contains. The browser becomes more customizable so that the user can adjust it to their different uses and requirements, and also make it more efficient and productive.

4

Simplified the characteristics of Vivaldi we have then:

Quick navigation; with access to shortcuts, page reversals or jumps to another page with a very fast and fluid advance, and quick accesses organized in folders, things that will make the experience easier.

Smart navigation; ranging from custom search engines, note taking while browsing. A side panel for downloads, notes, and bookmarks. Adding the web panel that will serve you to navigate in parallel or to access the site you want.

Tab manager; you can stack the tabs one on top of the other and save them. You can also save several open tabs and resume your session at other times. Changing from one tab to another is fast, you can also make an enlargement of the tab bar to preview them. You can also restore those that are closed or locked and you can stack them in parallel or in a grid.

Visual aspects; you will be able to appreciate how the system interface adapts to the web page you are visiting. You can also change the interface if you wish, as well as customize the background image of shortcuts and adjust the interface components. Finally, there is the option to expand the content of a page from top to bottom.

5

The markers; you will have a toolbar at hand to facilitate the administration and access of bookmarks. In addition to being able to assign names to bookmarks to locate them faster in the address bar.

Shortcuts; Use keyboard shortcuts to execute actions on the system through key combinations and execute your operations in the browser with the mouse.

Since Vivaldi is a new web browser, many users will wonder how good it is or if it is worth using it, instead of the more popular browsers. It is no secret that Firefox and Chrome lead this market, and therefore it is perhaps a bit difficult to become one of the first options. But if we study the background of its founders, Vivaldi is structured in favor of customization, simplicity and speed. Which makes it worth testing how adaptable it is to our use.

6

If we compare it with Chrome for example, Vivaldi tends to be fast sea on many occasions, although in general terms its performance is similar, since it is based on an engine similar to that of Chrome, the V8 JavaScripting and the rendering engine in Chromium. However, Vivaldi's interface changes are smoother.

Although Vivaldi stands out in several respects over Chrome, in the case of MS EdgeThis is arguably faster than Chrome on a dual kernel system, making more efficient use of multiple cores. Which makes us understand that in this case it could be faster than Vivaldi. But we once again emphasize that the difference between these two with Vivaldi, is the manipulation of many of the system's features, which are not available in other browsers and which are rigidly defined in this regard, since the customization options are less and less flexible.

Regarding Vivaldi components, we know that its interface handles JavaScript and React, just like Node.js. And that your kernel works with Chromium. In addition, Vivaldi is compatible with Linux, Mac and Windows, to work in the most used distro.

Already knowing the characteristics of Vivaldi, it only remains to draw your conclusions from the browser when testing it. To do this, access this link and look for the download option on its official page: https://vivaldi.com/download/

I have been using it and it is very nice but I have found a bug of the most annoying and that is when I leave Google as the default search engine and do a search directly in the address bar or in the space to its right It returns me the Google home page without any response so I have to search directly there. Not the same with others like Bing.
I have already reported it, I hope they solve it quickly because it does take away the desire to continue using it

"Directly there" or "directly there" ... please, if we are going to express an opinion, at least write it well

I'm with you, hello, if we're going to give an opinion, at least let's "write it" well, instead of "let's write" it well.

As for the browser, in its day I tried it and it left a good taste in my mouth, and that it was a beta version if I remember correctly.

    Hello
The type of license is freeware, right? In other words, it is proprietary software.
I do not want to be bad people, but the idea is not to post free software or open source by default?
    Good article. Cheers

I used it for a few hours and ended up going back, as almost always, to Firefox. I don't know if it will be better or worse, but I'm too used to it ... I must be getting old. Another thing, if what Fran says is true, she can already make chiribitas….

I have the need to save on navigation data since I travel a lot for work and use a USB modem to connect. I would like to know if Opera is the best alternative to achieve this or is there more efficient options.

I have been testing it in Archlinux and it suits me perfectly, the truth is that I did not know this browser.
    Good article!

I have tested it in ArchLinux but although the sound works perfectly, the same does not happen with the video, on YouTube for example, and if I want to install the vivaldi-ffmpeg-codecs from AUR it tries to download 506 Mb (including Chromium). What am I doing something wrong?
