When we talk about alternatives to certain applications, we do not always have to refer to their version for GNU / Linux, because in many cases we are obliged to work with other operating systems in our work.
I saw in GUTL an article by friend Llamaret talking about Merge Word 2014, a text editor that is supposedly based on LibreOffice Writer, but it has an interface similar to MS Office 2010. I decided to download it to try it out and tell you about my experience regarding this application, but the problem is that it is only available for MS Windows.
Get Merge Word 2014
Anyway, it doesn't hurt to have an alternative when we are working in Windows, so I leave you a direct link:
Although Sourceforge says that it is based on LibreOffice, we can see in the details of the project that it is developed in VisualBasic and uses .Net / Mono for its interface. It is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution License.
CloudOn for iPad
The second alternative that I want to talk to you about is not precisely OpenSource and much less free (although I'm not sure), but the curious point here is that it is based on LibreOffice also as commented on EFYTimes. Called CloudOn and is only available to iPad.
The interesting thing is that despite being based on LibreOffice, its interface is quite different from this Office Suite, therefore, that LibreOffice being ugly can change if the developers propose it.
And nothing, I just wanted to tell you about this although it is not in the vein of the blog's theme. 😉
based on libreoffice, for ipad and not libre …………… as far as I know libreoffice uses lgpl.
If they were based on apache openoffice, that's something else.
Well, look at your .. terrible hahaha
the merge word link does not point to anything, it is just a http:///
Ready, corrected !!
LOL!!! Elav you have uploaded the downloads to merge world 2014. 3 today. Since 30/10 23 downloads !!!!
Top country: 30% of dowloaders !!!!
LOL!!
a decent browser + office.com
I don't understand why to get a frork out of LO with the heavy .net framework, better to have gotten one removing all traces of java.
At least I hope that if it handles opendocument correctly.
They do not seem to me to be programs of interest, because the most versatile programs are those that work the same regardless of the computer system as LibreOffice.org or OpenOffice.org (they are also free).
About how 'nice' that iPad application is, all I see is an application that has to adapt to the limitations of the device on which it is going to run, the fashion of limiting applications on computers with generous screens. seems like a mistake.
Well I'm a follower of Italo Vignoli and Michael Meeks on Google +.
LibreOffice welcomes you to CloudOn. This is made clear by Italo Vignoli and Michael Meeks, members of The Document Foundation of LibreOffice.

I forgot that Elav is a faithful follower of Miguel de Icaza that is why I test
Merge Word 2014, a program that uses Mono C # for its graphical interface, because Merge Word 2014 uses Microsoft libraries with Mono, it cannot be exported to GNU / Linux for now. Hopefully in the future you can.
Just comment that the CloudOn application is free for ipad.
It is another way to see your documents if you do not have the pc at hand.
Greetings all.
I really don't understand why all the blogs repeat that "Merge Word" is based on LibreOffice. I have tried it and its quality seems that of a school programming project. It even has labels test yet! Look at the status bar. It doesn't open files the same, it doesn't support all the formats LibreOffice supports, and the equivalent features don't work the same. Also, where is the source code?
I'm not saying it, the Blog doesn't say it, it says it on the Merge Word page itself.
