MinerGate: How to install this Miner Software on GNU / Linux?

On other occasions, we have written about Digital Mining and they have been of great interest to readers. At times, the topics covered have been about How to optimize our GNU / Linux OS for Digital Mining?, other times it has been about a certain GNU / Linux OS suitable for Digital Mining or simply about Basic concepts related to the area of Digital Mining, Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain or FinTech.

In this opportunity, we will talk about MinerGate Software and how to install it on our OS GNU / Linux. We have chosen MinerGate, since, on the MS Windows Operating Systems, is usually widely used for its effectiveness and simplicity, and the robustness and reliability of its platform.

What is MinerGate?

What is MinerGate?

MinerGate basically it is a Mining Software, but it is also the name of the Online Digital Mining Platform provided by said application.

According to their official website, the platform and software are described as:

"MinerGate is a multi-currency mining fund created in 2014 by a group of blockchain enthusiasts. We provide the easiest mining software, a reliable 24/7 support service and a helpful community at your disposal.".

"MinerGate xFast GUI Miner is an easy-to-use, high-performance mining software. Based on the new code architecture, the application displays impressive hash output, making your mining experience even more efficient.".

MinerGate installation

Note: To carry out this tutorial and installation we will use a small customized and optimized version of the MX Linux 19.X Distro call Miracles 2.0, which is already previously optimized for these tasks, according to our previous tutorial described for it. In addition, it is good to note that the current version of MX Linux 19.X it is based on Debian GNU / Linux 10 (Buster).

Step 1:

Download the Mining Software

For this we must go to the Downloads section of said website and download the current version available for GNU / Linux. By the time of writing this article, they are going for the stable version 1.7, which recommends for installation on Ubuntu. This Software comes with or without a graphical interface, that is, it comes with a version for Desktop (GUI) and one for Terminal (CLI).

Step 2:

Once one or both versions have been downloaded, the same version (s) can be installed using the graphical or console package manager of your preference, and the customary mode of your choice. For our Tutorial, we will use the command «dpkg». And as follows for the GUI package:

«dpkg -i Descargas/MinerGate-xFast-gui-1.7-ubuntu.deb»

Since, we are already using the GNU / Linux Distro Miracles 2.0, the command «dpkg» only reports the lack of dependency or library siguiente: «libqt5websockets5». Which, we could install previously so as not to see ourselves in said error, in case of using this Distro. In case of using Ubuntu, Debian, MXLinux or other similar or not, remember to optimize your OS, as we indicated in this previous article, which we constantly keep updated.

Any other unanticipated errors, for dependencies or libraries, it could be solved by typing any of these 2 commands, or their equivalents according to the GNU / Linux Distro used:

«sudo apt --fix-broken install»

«sudo apt install -f»

Mining Software installation process

Step 3:

In case of having carried out the installation successfully, it only remains to start said application, which should have a shortcut called MinerGate in the Applications menu, Office section. And if there are no problems, some, unknown or not detected, it should open perfectly, for you to enter your email on the graphical interface of the program and log in. Remember that you must first register in the MinerGate platform in order to make effective use of Software.

Final note

Many times these Digital Mining Software require packages and libraries of video (NVidia, AMD and Intel) to work optimally. In the case of MinerGate, your terminal version «MinerGate-xFast-cli-1.7-ubuntu.deb», requires the installation of «nvidia-cuda-dev», which requires depending on the GNU / Linux Distro used, to download a series of packages that can weigh around 600 MB.

In many cases, this action it can make the system unstable if they are not properly configured, or you don't have the suitable hardware, or worse, you can request to delete other essential packages and leave your GNU / Linux Distro troubled or unusable. So be careful, in this particular case.

In another next article, we will choose another Digital Mining Software to go testing several, little by little.
