Muon Suite 1.3 (alpha1) available [Images]

Ya we have told you about Muon Suite, we explain in detail what it was about, advantages and more 🙂 Those who are still not clear about what this is, can read our previous article Muon Suite: Muon Suite v1.2.1 released [Details]

What happens is that the Alpha1 version 1.3 is already available, users of Kubuntu can use it by adding and updating from the PPA QApt Experimental

Here I leave you the detailed news, with photos and everything

Muon Package Manager:

  • Added confirmation dialog when changes in one package require changes in other packages. This dialog can be disabled from the preferences if desired.
  • Now selecting multiple packages is three times faster than before.
  • The problems that existed when a package could not be unchecked to install or update because it was a dependency of another package, these problems have been fixed.

Muon Software Center:

  • The package name can now be read on each application's detail page.
  • The user is now alerted when uninstalling an application which will in turn uninstall other packages.
  • The screenshots pop-up has been replaced with an internal window on the application details page. Now it is with effect Blur, with a transparent background, with animation and in short ... much better 😀

Muon Update Manager:

It has been rewritten for this version. Before it was just a "lite" or "demo" version ("trimmed" is a more suitable word I think) of the Muon Package Manager, but without filters and search options. This new design for version 1.3, as you can see, is more intuitive, more user-friendly, and more oriented to simply "update", which is what it's all about in the end.

The updates are divided into three sections:

  • Application updates.
  • Non-app package updates (for example, libraries and the like).
  • Security updates, vulnerability fixes and the like.

This will allow the user to update only what really interests them, that is ... many only want to update what they will see with their eyes, that is: Changes in their applications.
With this new distribution they will be able to do it without problems.

During the update process a progress bar will be displayed showing the current status of the process.

In addition, the user will be alerted if he begins to update the system and does not have the equipment connected to the power. As well as the alert will be displayed in the event that in the middle of the update process, the cable is disconnected.

In general ... the new Update Manager is much better than before, more polished, more fun and beautiful 🙂

You can see the changelogs in a much more detailed (and technical) way in these links: Changelog 1 & Changelog 2

Honestly ... honestly ... Kubuntu is beating me again, if not for the "instability" issue and the simple fact that it is not rolling release, I would already be using Kubuntu.
Muon Suite It is something that really catches my attention, it is an extremely interesting project, the development of this is extremely fun, interesting, I would love to be able to use it, test it, see how it works.

But, I calm with my Arch haha, I feel a bit envious of Kubuntu users, they have this extremely great application, VERY but VERY promising, so good luck and hopefully development continues as fantastic as it has been so far.

regards

What problem does Kubuntu have with stability? I would say no more than Ubuntu. And well, the buntu LTS are very, very stable, including Kubuntu!

Hello and welcome to the site 😀
The problem with Kubuntu (at least from my point of view) is that there are two options, use LTS (Lucid now) or use the latest version (Oneiric).
If I use Lucid, yes, I will have guaranteed stability, but I will not be able to enjoy the latest versions of the applications, as they take too long to enter the Lucid repos (current LTS).
Otherwise if I use the latest version (Oneiric) yes, I will have the latest version of the apps, but at least my experience has told me that I will face instability issues. For example, plasma-desktop crashes for no apparent reason, something as simple as defining that the .PNG files will be opened with another application, it remains "stuck" and does not close the window to select the other application, no way ... my experience with Kubuntu does not It has been nothing positive, not to mention that it consumes more than for example ArchLinux + KDE, Debian + KDE, just to give two examples.

This has been what I have been able to appreciate, based on my experience.
      regards

mmmm you should try appSet, the chakra frontend for pacman, is in aur so no way to tell you install it however I will try to send you a solution to it as soon as I have my pc again uu

= You can take a look at it from the chakra livecd, it is quite interesting also that it can manage the aur (or in case of chakra the ccr .. I think), there must be a way that you can use it if you want it ... I don't think have too many dependencies

I actually like pacman just like it is, without a GUI I

What strikes me the most about Muon is his development, that is ... knowing that he is developing, seeing his progress, his new options, I don't know ... I find it interesting, it motivates me 🙂
