What's new in MX version 19.4

Among the novelties that its developers have announced in a respective publication inside of Official website, mention the following:

  • Ease of upgrade: through the console with a simple «Apt upgrade» from previous versions of «MX-19 ».
  • New ISOs available:
  1. 32 bit ISO with XFCE and Fluxbox with a Debian kernel standard 4.19
  2. 64 bit ISO with XFCE and Fluxbox with a Debian kernel standard 4.19
  3. 64 bit ISO with XFCE and Fluxbox with an AHS 5.10 kernel
  4. 64 bit ISO with KDE Plasma with a Kernel AHS 5.10 kernel
  • Updated apps:
  1. XFCE4.14
  2. KDE Plasma 5.15
  3. GIMP 2.10.12
  4. TABLE 18.3.6 (20.3.4 for AHS edition)
  5. Latest debian kernel 4.19 (5.10 for AHS edition)
  6. Browser: Firefox 87
  7. Video Player: VLC 3.0.12
  8. Music Manager: Clementine 1.3.1

Finally, they add the following:

"The standard versions of MX-19.4 (32-bit and 64-bit) include the latest debian 4.19 kernel. The AHS (Advanced Hardware Support) iso features a debian 5.10.24 kernel, 20.3 table updates, as well as new updated firmware packages. The KDE iso has also been updated and being AHS-based it also has the 5.10.24 kernel and updated mesa and firmware packages. As usual, this release includes the latest debian 10.6 (buster) updates and MX repositories". MX-19.4 is out now!

Why use MX Linux?

Personally, I currently use «MX-19 » and I use it since the version was available «MX-17.1 ». And certainly many often wonder and ask me: Why use a Distro like "MX"? that it is not the lightest available among so many and less the most beautiful among many, which by the way, lives up to its current code name of «Ugly Duckling". And also: What makes it so special to be at the top of DistroWatch for so long?

My arguments

So these are my 6 arguments or strengths what do i see at «MX-19.X » to prefer it:

  1. A low and acceptable consumption of resources for its 64 Bit version.
  2. A version available for 32 Bits, very useful for old or low-resource equipment.
  3. An excellent own package, that is, native software tools developed by and for MX.
  4. It is based on Debian GNU / Linux 10, which gives it a stable and modern foundation, with excellent support.
  5. It accepts the installation and use of extra Desktop Environments very well, that is, apart from XFCE, Plasma and FluxBox, it works very well with LXQT, OpenBox, I3wm and IceWM, at least as far as I have come to test.
  6. It allows you to create a Respin (live, customizable and installable Snapshot), which, when used on a USB storage device, has an excellent persistence capacity.

Note: The latter gives the advantage that, once we have spent hours or days improving, customizing, adapting our «MX-19.X » we can make a respin of the same, so that in case of fatal error or want to do a simple reinstallation or reset our Operating systemLet's just spend a few minutes (re) installing it and have everything as we want it, saving us many hours / labor in repeating everything from scratch. And in case of using it in a USB storage unit with or without persistence, we can start our own on any computer «MX-19.X ». Just like I do with my own respin called Miracles.

Greetings, Malevoelguapo. Thanks for your comment. Although, it is not uncommon that some apps are not usually installed in some distros, it is very unfortunate that it has not given you a good impression about your good Hardware. From me, MX Linux is fabulous, both in its original form and in my personal respin.
