The new OpenShot 2.0 update has been released

On February 9, an update of OpenShot 2.0.6 (Beta 3), which is already available for download. Openshot is a video editor created and updated by the programmer and developer Jonathan thomas, likewise creator of the new update of the 2.0 branch of this application, points out that he still has a lot of work to do, however, this new update has 3D animation, camera movement based on curves, composition, transitions, mixing audio, vector titles, and many other new features.

Likewise, Thomas refers that this would be the 3rd complete version of Open Shot 2.0 in the last 30 days and that it is working closely with the testers and users to address the most critical problems that are identified.

If you are interested in trying, you will be happy to know that the beta installers are released for any user who wants to download them, and you can get them here:

Windows: Version 2.0.6 MSI Installer

Mac: Version 2.0.6 DMG

Linux: You must install Daily PPP (for Ubuntu and related). Now Debian, Arch and Gentoo also support OpenShot 2.0

Animations: Extremely soft, so much so that they have been compared to silk. Zoom, pan and rotation are some of the benefits of this change.

Audio: Improved, managing to overcome that of previous versions, audio problems such as popping, dripping and others have been fixed in this new version.

Automatic backup: a whole new engine has been built to Open Shot 2.0, designed to be quick and easy to configure, managing to automatically save your project in a specific time interval. It is necessary to check first if this option is enabled in configuration.

Recovery: Along with the new automatic backup capability, the recovery function has also been enabled and integrated. If you had not saved your project, there is no need to fear, thanks to the new automatic backup engine, your unsaved project will be backed up (with the automatic saving frequency that you have previously configured), and if OpenShot crashes, the most recent backup will be recovered.

File management: Multiple improvements were made to the handling of project files, including improvements to temporary files stored in folders (i.e. animated titles).

Exception handling: The integration between libopenshot (video editing library) and openshot-qt (PyQt5 user interface) has been improved. Now users present a error message describing some details of what happened. Of course, the 'hard crash' that kills everything still occasionally occurs, however many accidents can now be avoided and users are more informed about what has happened.

Stability in Windows: The existence of quite unpleasant errors in Windows, which in theory, should have appeared with other platforms, are due to errors related to the multiple processors of this system, these errors have yet to be fixed and many of them are now fixed.

Notification of a new version: OpenShot will check the presence of the most recent release version from the openshot.org website, and notify the user by displaying a icon at the top right of the main windowl. This update has been requested by users for a long time, but now it has finally been granted. It is also notified silently if the Internet does not exist or if it is not available, which is executed separately, preventing the application from slowing down.

Anonymous bug report: A new ability to report bugs anonymously has been added to OpenShot. This option can be activated and deactivated in preferences, and from time to time yese submit bug reports anonymously, which will help identify where accidents are occurring.

Drag precision: There were small problems such as adding space between clips, transitions or out of place, these problems were have been fixed and now it works great.

Translations: Changes have been made to 78 languages supported, this thanks to the hard work of multiple translators who have worked tirelessly.

Although the updates and improvements as we have seen have been many, there are still multiple errors that continue to be presented such as: DVD export errors in some versions of Linux, some translation problems to certain languages. Likewise, some users have reported stability issues with Windows, for which still the cause has not been determined, however most likely they are related to multiple processors and a couple more of the conditions that only seem to happen in Windows.

If you have already downloaded this new version or are planning to do so, you should know that OpenShot is encouraging users to get involved with the company, requesting send any bug reports and suggestions to: https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt/issues. You can also help by contributing as a translator (if you are a user with a language other than English), you can do this here: https://translations.launchpad.net/openshot/2.0/+translations.
