Nextcloud Hub 20 arrives with integration improvements, optimization and more

The launch of the new version of the platform Nextcloud Hub 20, version in which have improved integration with various platforms (Slack, MS Online Office Server, SharePoint, MS Teams, Jira, among others), in addition to that some optimization improvements and more are also highlighted.

For those who are unfamiliar with Nextcloud Hub, they should know that this is a platform that provides a standalone solution to organize collaboration between employees of companies and teams that develop various projects.

Simultaneously Nextcloud has a cloud platform that allows to expand the support synchronization and data exchange, providing the ability to view and modify data from any device anywhere on the network (using a web interface or WebDAV). The Nextcloud server can be deployed on any hosting that supports PHP scripts and provides access to SQLite, MariaDB / MySQL, or PostgreSQL.

In terms of tasks, Nextcloud Hub looks like Google Docs and Microsoft 365, but it allows you to implement a fully controlled collaboration infrastructure that operates on your own servers and is not tied to external cloud services.

In this new edition work has been done to improve integration with third-party platforms, both owners (Slack, MS Online Office Server, SharePoint, MS Teams, Jira and Github) as open source (Matrix, Gitlab, Zammad, Moodle). For integration, Open Collaboration Services open REST API is used, created to organize the interaction between platforms to collaborate with the content. Three types of integrations are proposed:
Gateways between Nextcloud Talk chats and services like Microsoft Teams, Slack, Matrix, IRC, XMPP, and Steam.

Another important change in this new version is the unified search covering external bug tracking systems (Jira, Zammad), collaborative development platforms (Github, Gitlab), learning systems (Moodle), forums (Discourse, Reddit) and social networks (Twitter, Mastodon);
Call controllers from external applications and web services.

The search system has been unified, allowing in one place to see the search results not only in Nextcloud components (Files, Talk, Calendar, Contacts, Deck, Mail), but also in external services such as GitHub, Gitlab, Jira and Discourse.

Also a new dashboard has been proposed, where you can place widgets and open documents directly without calling external applications. Widgets provide a means to integrate with external services such as Twitter, Jira, GitHub, Gitlab, Moodle, Reddit, and Zammad, view status, display weather forecasts, display favorites, chat lists, important emails, calendar events, tasks , notes and analysis.

In Talk has added support for referring to other platforms. For example, chat rooms can now connect to one or more channels on Matrix, IRC, Slack, Microsoft Teams. Also, Talk offers an interface to select emojis, preview downloads, camera and microphone settings, navigate to the original message when you click a quote, and mute participants using a moderator. Modules are provided to integrate Talk with the dashboard and unified search.

Also added the ability to determine their status, whereby others can find out what the user is doing at the moment.

The planner calendar now has an event list view, the layout was redesigned and modules were added for dashboard integration and unified search.

In the interface for working with email, a thread-like discussion display mode was implemented, the handling of namespaces in IMAP was improved and tools were added to manage the mailbox.

Of the other changes that stand out:

  • Flow's business process optimization component supports push notifications and the ability to link to other web applications through web links.
  • Added support for direct links to files in Nextcloud in the text editor.
  • The file manager offers the ability to attach descriptions to links to shared resources.
  • Integration with Zimbra LDAP has been implemented and an LDAP backend for the address book has been added (allows you to view an LDAP group as an address book).
  • The roof project planning system provides dashboard, search and calendar integration (projects can be submitted in CalDAV format).
  • Expanded filtering capabilities.
  • A modal dialog was implemented to edit maps and the function of archiving all maps was added.
  • Notifications and actions are grouped on a single screen.
