Nginx about to overtake Internet Information Server (IIS)

Reading in Web Development I find out that a report by Netcraft shows that Nginx (a Russian web server) is about to surpass the Internet Information Server (IIS) from Microsoft, showing remarkable growth in recent months.

Nginx gathers many characteristics, it is Web Server, Reverse Proxy, proxy for protocols IMAP and POP3, and at the same time it is incredibly light and has a very high performance. For static files it is ideal and its consumption is outstanding. It is used by many sites like WordPress.com, MyOpera.com, And till Facebook.

So let's look at the stats:

Ranking Web Servers December 2011 (total sites)

  1. Apache 362,267,922 hostnames (65.22%)
  2. Microsoft 82,521,809 hostnames (14.86%)
  3. nginx 49,143,289 hostnames (8.85%)
  4. Google 18,464,148 hostnames (3.32%)

Google with google sites or what?

IIS is crap and only works decently with the Server version of Windows.

Maybe, start looking how this nginx is. I say to comment on him.

The experience with Nginx, at least for me, was quite satisfactory although its configuration is a little more complex than in Apache when creating VHost.
