The developers of ONLYOFFICE, the online office suite, recently announced the release of the first major version of 2024, "ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.0, " which comes with a host of new features, including some useful improvements such as the ability to create and edit PDF forms in all their editions, namely mobile and desktop.
For those unfamiliar with OnlyOffice, it is an office suite that claims to be fully compatible with MS Office and OpenDocument formats.
ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.0 Main New Features
This new version of ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.0 highlights the ability to create and edit fillable PDF forms. The form editor has been upgraded from OFORM to PDF format, with forms now in OOXML format. A dialog box has been added for converting older OFORM files to PDF. When creating a fillable PDF in ONLYOFFICE, a DOCXF template must first be created. Additionally, a date selection tool has been added, allowing users to choose a date when completing a PDF form, as well as the ability to encrypt PDF files with a password.
In ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.0, information about tools that appear when working with form templates in DOCXF format was added ; these small pieces of practical information will allow the user to familiarize themselves with the functionality of the template creation process.
Among the improvements implemented in Linux , there is now the ability to load local themes , in addition to the window control button styles now matching the user's shell design , and the widget for displaying downloads and the download indicator has been changed.
In the Windows edition , in addition to the ability to load local themes and display downloads and the download indicator, OnlyOffice also includes shortcuts to the Start menu for creating new files, a list of recently opened files, the ability to pin recently opened files to the context menu, and support for selecting and deselecting all formats in the MSI installer . The update delivery system has also been updated.
ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.0, in the mobile edition, now includes support for switching to the system theme, a redesigned interface for working with forms, the ability to search for formulas and view recently used formulas , and support for adding custom cell formatting to spreadsheets . In the document editor, a toggle between viewing and editing modes has been added, along with a setting to select the document language.
Another new feature that ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.0 highlights is the support for using several visual plugins simultaneously and that now a separate button is added to the panel that, for example, allows you to translate text, check spelling and create a bibliography simultaneously, switching between these tasks on the go.
Other notable changes include:
