OpenMandriva Lx 4.0 officially available

Today there is great news for the Linux community, OpenMandriva Lx 4.0 is now available with many interesting new features and improvements.

As a first change, the default browser has changed in this version, it is now Falkon, the Chromium-based browser that promises to have better integration with KDE than its competitors. Of course, you can always install Firefox, Chrome, or any other supported alternative.

One of the most interesting sections of this compilation is that is optimized for AMD processors only, it will not work properly on Intel chips. The OpenMandriva team ensures that if you use an AMD processor you will see improved performance using this version.

The versions of different programs included by default have been updated, among these are the following:

  • Squid 3.2.7
  • DigiKam 6.0
  • Firefox Quantum 66.0.5
  • Java 12
  • KDE Applications: 19.04.2
  • KDE Frameworks: 5.58.0
  • KDE Plasma: 5.15.5
  • Kernel 5.1.9
  • Krita 4.2.1
  • LibreOffice 6.2.4
  • LLVM / clang 8.0.1
  • Table 19.1.0
  • QtFramework 5.12.3
  • systemd 242
  • xorg 1.20.4

The team has shared all the update notes within this link, showing that the OpenMandriva community was really taken into account when compiling this new version.

If you want to download OpenMandriva Lx 4.0 you can do it, you just have to go to this link. If you have an older Intel or AMD processor you should go for the X86_64 image. In case you have a modern AMD processor like EPYC, Ryzen, ThreadRipper, it is recommended that you use the znver1 image.

A small observation, there is indeed an edition optimized for AMD processors, but they also still have the edition for intel x86_64 processors
