OpenSUSE 12.1 available

The developers behind the project openSUSE announced that the version 12.1 Linux-based operating system after eight months of work. This new edition features a update software and various improvements remarkable.

Version with GNOME 3.2

Represents an improved version of GNOME SHELL, which apart from fixing some GNOME 3 bugs, includes:

  • Better handling of small screens and touch settings (including automatic rotation)
  • Notifications are much more pleasant allowing you to create and configure online accounts in one place. For example, if we create a Google account, our Google Docs will be available in the new document manager, Empathy will recognize Google contacts and the calendar will show us appointments or tasks.
  • Nautilus, the file manager, will now have a preview.
  • Among the new features is color management, something that GNOME shares with KDE, with OpenSUSE 12.1 being the first to integrate the Oyranos Control Management System.
  • Now it's also easier to resize windows and other title bars

Version with KDE 4.7

  • Kolor Management as frontend of Oyranos
  • Replacing KPackageKit (finally !!) by Apper, this package manager is redesigned, simplifying both installation and removal of applications.
  • Plasma Activate the project for tablets, even though it is not yet an official part of OpenSUSE (expected for OpenSUSE 12.1), its installation is already possible.
  • Visually, the KDE Plasma workspace includes better integration with GTK / GNOME applications.
  • Latest versions of various programs: Amarok, KTorrent, K3b, Gwenview, KStars, KDM, Marble
  • Improved network management including support for NetworkManager 0.9

The other XFCE (4.8) and LXDE desktops have not had major updates in this version and on the other hand the KDE3 packages are still available in OpenSUSE.

other developments

  • Kernel 3.1
  • systemd is the new startup tool in opensuse, controlling and speeding up the startup process. Developed in close collaboration with the partner distribution Fedora, systemd is especially interesting for system administrators due to its powerful socket and bus service activation system, which improves parallelization and resource utilization. It also works closely with Linux cgroups to provide better security and control over processes.
  • Compilation tools: LLVM3, Clang or GCC3, Go (it is the first distro to support this language created by Google).
  • Support for Amazon EZ 2 Cloud.
  • WebYAST offers an improved web interface to remotely manage openSUSE systems with new modules and higher performance.

I have OpenSuse since its version 11.4, and I always liked it a lot for work for study and for fun, all in one, but currently the apper takes a long time and some programs like virtualbox do not install, I do not know if it will be an individual problem or of installation.
Where can I find information about the configuration or learn to better handle the apper in this version
