Pac Manager - The Ultimate Connection Manager

Pac Manager is a very interesting, functional and useful tool for any administrator. This tool is very little commented on in the Linux world and to a certain extent unknown by many, which surprises me a bit, being so useful and practical. Here I bring you a complete review of the application.

First of all, What is Pac Manager and what is it for?. Easy is a ssh, telnet connection manager, among others, with a very friendly graphical interface, it can save passwords, users, connection settings, appearance settings, custom text and fonts, logs (very useful to check when we make a mistake) , allows exporting and importing connections, making a cluster of connections (thus avoiding repetitive tasks), etc. We can download it at sourceforge.

It comes in 3 flavors, deb, rpm and tar.gz, it is a matter of which one best suits your system. Once installed it looks like this:

pac-manager1

Basically we can manage everything remotely from here FTP, SSH, RDP, VNC, among others, for RDP you must install rdesktop and so on, if you do not have the appropriate protocol installed for any connection it will not be shown. Simple, right?

Now the interesting thing, for example in ssh we can add user, password, port, ip, everything from "Add connection".

We can also add groups "Add group" to have our connections more organized, as well as import and export connections, always have a backup of all your settings. Wow !!!

Let's visualize how the open connections are stacked in tabs at the top, like a web browser

We can configure proxy options, very useful when we are in a company or private network

In this section you can add any number of commands that are executed, before or after, when an event occurs, macros, environment variables, etc.

A very useful feature is to split the screen horizontally or vertically to perform tasks by viewing more than one connection at a time. with option SPLIT

One of my favorites is cluster connections, «Saved clusters» This is a way to configure and that you can save this configuration for another time, you just have to put a name and start adding your connections. Or on the contrary if you want it is a temporary one you can also in Runing clusters. Once you are satisfied, you accept.

Another way is in the option PCC, simple here you send it to all currently open connections

This is a very nice feature of this application, logs, to keep a log of each command. Very helpful when you want to remember or review an event

Ok this section is not for newbies, you can do scripts in pyton, and run them from the option scriptmanager, bring some pre-loaded examples, so you can venture without fear

Wake-on LanThere are applications that do this task, but it will be very practical for you as a server administrator or to have this feature integrated in the same application.

Do not forget, VERY IMPORTANT, press save, to save all your settings

Well these are the most resulting characteristics for me, however it has many more to discover, I assure you that you are not going to waste your time installing this application, that's all for this time, until next time

I really liked PAC manager the first time I tried it, over there in openSUSE 12.3, it is like MremoteNG in windows, but better, it also allows serial connections through cu, very useful and functional to all those who have gtk environments, the installation is to arrive and sing if you have ubuntu or derivatives, but if you have openSUSE kde it is a trauma, because of the missing libraries to install, cu and gtk-glade2 (gtk2) if I'm not mistaken, it is not so easy to find them.
I have always looked for something like Secure crt, for linux and PAC manager it is the closest, regrettable about the details that I mention, but it is the best there is, I would like someone to fork, in python3 and Qt5, I would even pay because did it.
Hopefully support this project that there have been several of this type that have been forgotten, but of all this is the best.

    regards

It is true, unfortunately he is married to about 8 gtk libraries, however I invite you to try their most recent versions, which have not given me any problem in Debian KDE

"The installation is to arrive and sing if you have ubuntu or derivatives" I correct "if you have debian or derivatives or derivatives of derivatives" 🙂
Hopefully in the rpm distros it would work that well, as the rpm package is created with alien it is a luck of chance.
I don't use debian for the desktop any more than for servers because it's a rock, but I think it shouldn't give you any problem.

The rpm works again in fedora, it had years broken. On the other hand, I invite you to try remmina, it seems to me a very good client, although it seems that your specifications are very advanced.

In the end, there's nothing putty can't do 😉

      Regards,

I tried both. I like the Remmina interface better but PAC manager is much more powerful. I started using some functions that Remmina does not have or at least I did not know how to find and I leaned towards PAC

    Hello, good afternoon.

I recently installed the new version of ubuntu for exploring ...
I have just used linux mint 17.3 (cinnamon) in my workstation and it already served me the perfect functioning of PAC but when using it in Ubuntu 16.04 gnome, which is the version that I have installed, I have "pissed off" because when accessing options, clusters or any other pop-up window, this one is placed behind me, making it impossible to bring it to the front automatically when accessing it.

Apart from this, the application usually hangs up quite frequently, which in the mint environment did not happen (gtk version issues ??)
