Peazip: Multi-platform compressed file manager

Peazip: Multi-platform compressed file manager

In our last post related to the topic of file compression on GNU / Linux called «How to manage compressed files on GNU / Linux?»We mention the« Peazip »application as an excellent and current« Multiplatform File Manager » available for GNU / Linux Operating Systems. And in an old blog post called «PeaZip 4.8 Available»Of the year 2.012 we talked about it. So now 7 years later we will see how much it has progressed.

Remembering for the less understood that A "Compressed File Manager" is an application or program that allows and facilitates the compression / decompression of files and folders on an Operating System, which constitutes an excellent mechanism or technique to be used to minimize problems of time, space, security and privacy on the management of stored and used data.

Peazip: Banner Introduction

Introduction

Installation on GNU / Linux

To install on a GNU / Linux Operating System, the system has several options, that is, with several types of files to facilitate the installation and use process. Among these are:

  • Portable x86-64 file with GTK2 support: Using this method, you will only need to download the compressed file called "Peazip_portable-6.7.1.LINUX.x86_64.GTK2.tar.gz", unzip it and run the executable file called "Peazip". In case it does not run on your Operating System, verify that the executable file has the execution permission activated.
  • Installable file with GTK2 support: Using this method, you will only need to download the file named "Peazip_6.7.1.LINUX.GTK2-2_all.deb" and install it using any of the methods, already known and available in any Distro.
  • Installable file with QT support: Using this method, you will only need to download the file named "Peazip_6.7.1.LINUX.Qt-2_all.deb" and install it using any of the methods, already known and available in any Distro.

In either case, remember that if your Distro is 64 Bit, PeaZip requires the "ia-32" libraries as it says in the image above, under each type of installation file. Also note that the available ".deb" packages have the following dependencies: libatk1.0-0 (> = 1.29.3), libc6 (> = 2.3.6-6 ~), libcairo2 (> = 1.2.4) , libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (> = 2.21.6), libglib2.0-0 (> = 2.12.0), libgtk2.0-0 (> = 2.18.0), libpango1.0-0 (> = 1.18.0), libx11-6

Conclusion

In my case, on Xubuntu 18.04 download the Portable x86-64 file with GTK2 support called "peazip_portable-6.7.1.LINUX.x86_64.GTK2.tar.gz", I unzipped said file, and immediately executed the executable file called "Peazip" from the resulting unzipped folder, obtaining as a result the successful execution of the program.

After performing some basic compression and decompression operations, I am pleased that both its interface and its operation are beautiful, clean, fast, effective and efficient. It is only necessary to improve the automatic integration surely with the File Browsers, since naturally I did not obtain in the context menu that is generated with the left click on the files and folders, the option to compress and decompress with PeaZip, if not that using the "open with ..." option, access PeaZip, and only to open already compressed files. Rest is excellent application.
