PS

They have been released a little more about the specifications of the future PlayStation 5 Sony's (PS5), the next-generation console that will succeed PlayStation 4. Although the PS5 not yet officially presented, Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, (it is not known whether it was intentional or by mistake) made it known in a tweet which the future console from the Japanese tech giant A custom chip based on the x86 Zen 2 AMD architecture will be shipped introduced during the unveiling of the EPYC Roma and NAVI chips, the post-VEGA GPU architecture.

Until a certain point this console was known to support up to 8K display, 3D audio via a custom unit included in the console, an SSD-based storage system to reduce load times and raytracing (a technique for modeling the movement of light rays to simulate complex interactions in 3D environments) at the hardware level. It should also be compatible with PS4 games and handle 4K Blu-ray discs up to 100GB.

Today it was unveiled that the core element of the PlayStation 5, is probably an APU, with 7nm TMSC recording technology, it will be a custom 8-core / 16-thread AMD CPU derived from the Ryzen 3000 series (also known as Matisse). Logically, it should offer a level of performance similar to the Ryzen 7 3700 or even better than the Ryzen 7 3800X. The PlayStation 5 will be fully introduced next year.

MarkCerny, Senior Systems Architect for the PS5, recently spoke about improvements to the user interface of the machine and those that affect the new control.

Regarding user interface improvements, Cerny has revealed that the multiplayer servers will provide the console with all the activities that can be reached in real time, while the single player games will provide information on what missions you could complete and the rewards you could receive for accomplishing them, indicating that all these options will be visible in the user interface.

In addition, the home screen will show the data for a game even if it is not running and will allow parts of a game to be played directly based on the data presented.

Regarding improvements to the new PS5 controller, Mark Cerny says that:

has new features like "Adaptive Triggers" on the L2 / R2 buttons that offer different levels of resistance for a shooting experience, Archery or driving on the game console is closer to reality or varies by game (condition of the road, type of automobile or weapon used, tension applied to a bowstring).

This new control would have a more sophisticated haptic response, a USB-C connector and a larger battery.

Regarding improvements to the storage system of the PS5, Cerny noted that game developers often duplicate data at the installer level so they are easily accessible during charges. According to Cerny, the new storage solution from the ps5 could allow developers to finish this practice and free up a bit more space storage on users' disks.

Sony should also allow developers to identify specific parts of a game that can be installed or removed if necessary.

Therefore, it will be possible to remove only single player mode from a game and keep multiplayer mode only to save space on a storage device. On the last point, the company said:

"Rather than treating games as one big block of data, we plan to allow more specific access to the data."

But as is often the case with proprietary console technologies, the long-term success of these consoles by developers may depend on whether or not they are compatible with the two leading concurrent consoles: Microsoft's Project Scarlett and Microsoft's PlayStation 5. . Sony.
