PortalProgramas Awards (1400 euros in donations)

The PortalProgramas Awards for Free Software 2011 begin. This year the news includes 1400 euros in donations and 5 new categories.

But … What are these awards about?
Simple, they reward the programs / software that have most influenced technological advances.

We all know the most popular free programs like Ares, eMule, OpenOffice.org ... but behind many of the current technological advances it is used FOSS, software that often goes unnoticed and that does not have a great recognition, but that nevertheless is essential for technology.
Therefore, in the Awards PortalPrograms This year we have introduced 5 new categories:

• Essentials for technology: Computer systems improve thanks to the fact that there is a good free software base on which they are developed (frameworks, testing, databases ...). We reward the free software that has helped the most development
  technological during this year.
• Essentials for the Web: Web pages have evolved and become faster, more dynamic and compatible with all browsers. We reward the free software that has helped the most to improve web page technology this year.
• Essential for communication: The dissemination of news and communications are a basic pillar on the Internet that have contributed to a revolution in society. And these are faster thanks to certain free programs that facilitate the management of blogs, magazines, forums ... and the communication between free that has helped the most to improve communication on the Internet this year.
• Essentials for communication networks: We reward free software the most it has helped to improve the performance of communication networks.
• Business essentials: We reward the free software that
  It has helped business growth.
• Most popular free software: Free software would go unnoticed by many users if it were not for some widely used programs that have helped to make it known to the general public. We reward those who have helped the most to publicize free software this year.
• Most revolutionary free software: We highlight the project that has grown the most this year and that is helping the most to improve technology.
• Greater growth potential: We highlight free software that
  you have more expectations to grow if you receive a donation. There are many projects with good ideas but that nevertheless do not have enough infrastructure to carry them out: powerful servers, CPU ... This award goes to the program that can grow the most thanks to a donation.

1.400 euros in donations:

From PortalPrograms we want to spread free software while we collaborate to develop it. That is why we carry out financial donations that help the development of many projects. The first year we distributed 500 euros, in the second edition of the Awards it was 1.000, and this time it will be 1.400 euros in donations. There are many reasons why free software

• January 24 - » The winners will be published.
